NPR, The statements that I made in my email to Mr. Cermak are supported by historical account. Further, I suggested with my parenthetical remark that the deception is employed by politicians of various political persuations. There should be "Truth In Campaign Advertisement" legislation drafted and passed to protect us, the consumer and voter, from snake oil salesmen.
Quoted Text
The deception, pandering to the electorate, and false promises made by politicians seems to fit a pattern; scripted moves taken (in this case) from the Schenectady Democratic party playbook.
I am not attempting to enlist Marv Cermak to "join my team". I was only providing additional information to support the assertions that he made in his column. I prefer journalists who can report in an unbiased fashion and who work to inform and serve the average citizens who are often left without a voice in our "representative" form of government. |

marv write a column -- he is hardly unbiased in his "reporting" -- he writes opinion -- he crossed the line a long time ago, which is fine, as his views are clearly labeled as opinion. |

I tend to agree with Brad. Sometimes the average 'joe citizen' can and should have input to the media. And not to form a 'team'. Ya know it isn't just the people in government can give the media viable information. There are some very informed 'average joes' out there with intelligent insight to the goings on in their community/nation. And their input should be welcomed, such as Brad's informative information. |

Marv Cermak "blasts both sides". Good! Isn't that what all reporters should be doing? The Gazetto refuses to blast either side. That's the problem. They sat on the Tebano story for a year and sit on all Krat flops. Another scoop from Marv about the closure of Parisi's Steakhouse. We are still waiting for the Gazetto to report on Friendly's closure this summer. That's why Marv is the Dean of local reporters. We don't need him on any side-keep calling them as you see them. By the way, keep reprinting his full column here. Unlike "Editor" Judy he is not paranoid and worried about someone getting a freebie. The TU is not going down the pishaloo. |

OK, so let's think about this. I did a little research (not much, just a little) and found the figures for the past 3 years on county taxes. From what I found, we had the following: 2007 - no tax increase (this is the year that at the same time, they instead reinstated the gas tax) 2008 - 4.5% increase 2009 - 8.9% increase
This means that although there was no tax increase in 2007, right now, you're still paying 13.8005% more in 2009 than you were in 2007 (plus you have the tax on your gas that they thought needed to be removed because it was excessive in an election year). |

And we know that next years tax increase will be huge, considering the economic condition of this state/country. |

And don't forget at the same time (which I didn't add earlier) that the residents of Rotterdam also had to deal with the (former majority Democrat-led townwide) re-evaluation which during this time pushed up taxes even more. |

I have a "homework assignment" for each of you on the forum. If you save your tax bills, pull those from the last two years (Jan 2007 and Jan 2008 ). Compare the amount of county taxes paid and the % increase and post the % increase (only) here. The county tax will likely be listed (misrepresented) as "Federal & State Mandates". This is deceptive as we all understand that not all government spending at the county level is mandated. There is a little more work to be done for those residing in the town of Rotterdam due to the property reval that occurred last year. As one of my prior posts had stated, the increase in property taxes (2008 over 2007) ranged from ~6.0% in the Town of Niskayuna to ~%20% in the Town of Princetown. My county tax rate increase in was ~11% in Duanesburg (where there was no reevaluation of my property). This resulted from the "4.5%" tax increase advertised by our County Legislators last year. If a 4.5% advertised increase in county property taxes resulted in actual increases of between 6.0% and 20% last year, what will be the actual increase in rate that results in the "8.9%" advertised increase resulting from the 2009 budget? Don't forget your homework assignment. And, I don't grade on a curve |

The bad situation was caused by the County Democrats who in 4 years hired every lob, expanded every DSS program (including starting extra non-State mandated programs) and wasted millions of dollars on Metrograft including $3 million on the Big Hose, which is still not opened. The last report in the Gazetto stated it would open in late May after "finishing touches". 6 months of "finishing touches" and nobody cares. Except Joe Suhrada. We had a frugal County Manager (an Independent) who was replaced by a partisan hire after the usual non search. At some point the people will blame this County Manager for bloated budgets and failure to identify any cuts. Saratoga County, Montgomery County, have NO county tax increases. |

OK, I found 2 different types of tax payments on my mortgage, school taxes and a "city tax payment." I don't see town or county, so the city has to be one of these and I have to be missing the other (unless they pay them at the same time and combine them on my account.)
I have 3 years worth of data.
In 2006, let's say I paid 100% city, 100% school. In 2007, I paid 100.09% city, 140.86% school. In 2008, I paid 109.63% city, 153.55% school.
I'm assuming that the "city" is the town of Rotterdam taxes and the school is obviously Schalmont taxes. |
