Quoted from Jo Ann:
Brad, you are correct. The majority bundled the 39 amendments into one for a vote.

Jo Ann,

Thank you for the confirmation.  The decision to bundle the Republican-sponsored amendments together for an up or down vote suggests to me that the majority is not interested in identifying additional areas for cost savings or reducing the tax levy on county property owners.  Among the Democrats objectives appears to be one to maintain absolute and unchallenged control of power.  Savage's adage that "Working Together Works" cannot be validated by the actions and conduct of the county legislature.

In March of 2008, the comptrollers office sent this to Saratoga County....

City officials are aware of the negative financial trends that have been affecting the City's operating funds over the past several years. We commend the Council, and Finance Department in particular, for recognizing that the City must reduce its significant reliance on fund balance as a means to financing recurring expenditures. As a result, City officials appropriated minimal amounts of fund balance in the City's 2007 adopted budget to finance operations.

Sue Savage is finished in politics. She has a huge State job and is laughing at you today. This whole County Budget fiasco was a charade and a civic disgrace. Joe Suhrada was right, every amendment needed a separate up or down vote.

This is what happens when one party Democratic tax and spenders run everything into the ground. Under real County Manager Bob McEvoy spending was controlled and County taxes the lowest in the region. Democratic blanks running unopposed. Disgusting. All the Democratic stooges are in hiding today. They have lied to the people and totally embarrassed themselves.

I was not able to be there last night and in fact, I have been so busy that I haven't been on this board in quite some time.  I cannot tell you exactly how this vote happened, as I was not there.  I was, however, there when the vote came through for the 2008 bodget back about this time last year, and this is exactly how this Democrat-controlled County Legislature worked at that point, and I assume, still.  They decided by a vote to go and vote for the tax cuts from each party separately, but on 1 vote for ALL cuts from each party (1 vote for Dem cuts, 1 vote for Rep cuts).  These votes always come down on party lines, with the exception of anyone who is up for election on the chance that it might help them, but not PO the chair.

And from LAMEndola, the ANTICIPATED VOTE?  How about being the one covering the late-breaking news that is important to you (us)???  Can't stay up past your bedtime every once in a while?

Oh I don't think that Lamendola would have even had to show up at all. The dictatorship would have just faxed him  or called him as to what they wanted printed......that simple!!

I was not there either......but, it appears the county legislature is trying to put together and keep together a corpse of sort....disgusting as it is....
we have spent alot of time downtown in the past year as I am of the person to 'see for myself'.,,,,and I will say it has very few things that keep your
attention at first but wear thin.....the surrounding areas offer little as well....the laundering of votes is prevalent.....

Did anyone else find it cheezy that the Schenectady City and County meetings were at the same time?  Certainly, people wanted to attend both - but had to choose ... that doesn't seem "fair"

This whole discussion is a waste of time.  It is ridiculous to even think they care.  The county legislature is a circus freak show, proven by the pre arranged vote of Marty Finn.  Same thing when dumb a## Jasenski voted in favor of the sex offender law two or three days after being appointed to the leg.  It's just stupid and we all know you can't cure it.   The saddest thing is the average county resident doesn't have a clue how they are being played and probably would not take the time to do anything about it anyway.  It's easier to pay the tax increase then to get involved.

If the reps were smart, perhaps they should have spent the bucks and placed a full page ad in the gazette with their budget proposal. I'm sure the gazette would have welcomed the chance since it would have given them monies that they are obviously in need of.

Some of the reps have good ideas. But they are not about to get them out to the people while they are IN the political arena surrounded by the opposition. They need a good PR person with marketing experience to get their agenda out.(the current rep leadership is clearly not filling the bill) The democratic dictatorship is HUGE. And they(the reps) need some new young, fresh blood. Mr. Farley is good with some good ideas, but he is truly a recycled politician. He has been around the political circuit for a couple decades. Suhrada is good but he needs much more support from his party. As far as Buhrmaster, well I don't see him as a very strong politician. Although I think he probably has some good ideas, he's not going to be the one to bring the party back to life. And Sanatabarba is young and fresh, but just too new. It would be interesting to know exactly how much support he gets from his party.

The Princetown constituency must love Jasenski.  He boasts the Sheriffs road patrol for the hill towns of Schenectady County, knowing full well that traffic tickets written by State Police and Sheriffs are a major part of Princetowns revenue.  Allowing them to preserve Princetowns rural feel, holding the line on taxes.

How much revenue is collected in ticket fines in Duansburg and Delanson?

The court revenue is $90 to $100,000.  This includes code violations and all other fines.  The cost to run the courts for the 2009 budget year is $75,678

so, potentially up to a 25% profit ... but you actually COULD take a loss if the patrols were pulled out.

Interesting

So it's safe to say that Sheriffs and Trooper provide essential revenue to the town of Duansburg paying for the court then some?  Giving a reason for the hill towns to favor County road patrols, even though there's a trooper barracks located their providing sufficient coverage.  Extra road patrol equals extra revenue, at little cost to the hill town taxpayer.
