Guyana Day marred by stabbings in park
SCHENECTADY — Police on Saturday night were investigating the stabbing of two people at the city’s eighth annual Guyana Day. Two people were taken to Ellis Hospital’s McClellan campus for emergency treatment after the 8 p.m. incident, said police spokesman Officer Kevin Green. Green said he believed their injuries were not lifethreatening. Police first responded to the festival in Central Park about 6 p.m. because two other people were reportedly injured from an assault. When police arrived, those two people were treated at the scene and didn’t want to fi le criminal charges. No weapons were used in that fight, Green said. After the stabbing, police decided to break up the festival, which was expected to end at sundown. Between 2,000 and 3,000 people were congregated in Central Park about 6 p.m., Green said. Another man was charged with public lewdness at the festival, which had started at noon.
