Hall monitor assaulted at Schenectady High School, boy stabbed near career center

SCHENECTADY — Three youths were charged today with assaulting a hall monitor at Schenectady High School, while another youth was slashed outside the Steinmetz Career Center.
Police spokesman Lt. Brian Kilcullen said the three - two high school boys and a girl from Central Park Middle School - entered the high school just before 11 a.m. and did not follow the proper procedures of signing in at the desk and showing identification. Kilcullen said the youths were asked to leave and refused, then assaulted a hall monitor.
The hall monitor suffered only minor injuries and was treated at the scene, Kilcullen said.
Police are not releasing the youths' names because of their ages, Kilcullen said, and their cases were referred to Schenectady County Family Court.
Meanwhile, a 17-year-old boy was slashed in the stomach after a confrontation with three other people at about 1:30 p.m. on Van Cortland Avenue, which borders the Steinmetz Career Center. None of the people involved in the attacks were Steinmetz students, Kilcullen said.
Kilcullen said the victim knew his attacker, but was being uncooperative. Witnesses described the suspect slasher as a black man, 5-foot-6, wearing a red shirt and black jeans, Kilcullen said.
The victim was taken to St. Clare’s Hospital with injuries that were not considered life threatening, Kilcullen said.
