I was willing to give Patterson a chance to change the way things were going in NYS, after he gave away $1,000,000,000 of our money to fund free Internet to those who can't afford it he's changed my mind about him already. We're in financial trouble here in NYS and our elected officials had better start cutting the pork out of the budget, cut spending and lower taxes or this state will force all of us to move in order to be able to pay our bills.

Municipal officials in Chicago, Houston, San Francisco and 10 other major cities, as well as dozens of smaller towns, quickly said they would match Philadelphia’s plans.
The bottom line is that Internet Service costs real money. The bandwidth has to come from somewhere, and I'll tell ya what, TimeWarner isn't about to give it away free. the "millions" they're proposing to throw at this project won't be enough to last a year - at the most - and provide the infastructure and speed that everyone associates with "broadband". Dialup - MAYBE - but not broadband as we know it.
Most poor people can afford that. Many poor people I know don’t forgo their cigarettes, beer, lottery tickets, cds, dvds and cable tv to pay their bills. I used to rent an apartment to a guy who would never give up any of the above, but he didn’t mind getting three months behind in his rent
yeah, and dont forget about all those 'other poor people' who wouldn't forgoe their dishwashers and 2 brand new cars in the driveway $70 sneakers for their kids and then complain about making their mortgage payment on their second home,but of course 'those poor folks' believe they deserve it too. This is after all, America,,,,,subprime anyone? or how about public service union contract negotiations? those poor poor people.....boo-hoo...

If ya want the internet, then ya pay for the internet. Simple. It should not be up to the government to supply it to anyone or any social group of people. And Time Warner is not obligated to give anyone anything. They are a privately owned business.

So are we suppose to feel bad because the 'poor' don't have the internet? I thought that we were suppose to be concerned and paying with our tax dollars to put food on their table, pay their rent, give them medical care, give them heat in the winter and job training. I didn't know we were obligated, with our tax dollar, to give them the internet too!!!!!! How 'bout a new computer, expanded cable and a plasma tv too? Geezzzz!

Yes Bumble, we do all that you mentioned and it still isn't enough and the politicians that run this state still can't figure why we don't have enough money in the budget. why they have to keep raising taxes every year. and why people and businesses keep fleeing this state for a more tax friendly state in which to live and operate their business. There's no cure for stupid.
With all of the government social handouts and all of the non-profits out there....we should all just quit our jobs and live off the wealthy. Cause I clearly am NOT a wealthy person. Nor am I poor or should I say 'underserved'. i think that is the politically correct word these days. I get up and go to work everyday to support myself and my family with no handouts. And if I can't make ends meet..guess what? I'll get a second part time job. WHATEVER IT TAKES!
I, along with others I'm sure, will no longer be able to support myself and family, the underserved and the fed/state public sector jobs and benefits.
