MABEE FARM CLASSES ROTTERDAM JUNCTION — Mabee Farm Historic Site, Route 5S, will offer the following two classes on Saturday . A class on making a corn husk doll will take place from 10 a.m. to noon. Instructor Pam Bucci will teach participants how to make a traditional Iroquois corn husk doll. This class is open to parent/relative and child. Children under 8 years old must be accompanied by an adult. Each participant will leave with their very own corn husk doll. The cost is $25 per person. A class on spinning with a drop spindle will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Instructor Pam Bucci will show participants how to create their own handspun yarn. Beverly Cornelius will teach participants how to make a large size market basket, a New England tote (Penobscot style,) whose origins are Native American from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday . This version was designed by Diane Stanton of Massachusetts and has two swing straps for carrying. Made of reed with shaker tape for straps, the finished size will be approximately: 12-by-12-by-9 inches. Bring a bag lunch. The cost is $75 (includes materials). Registration is required. John Ackner will teach a “Beginning Blacksmithing Course,” from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, July 24, and Sunday, July 25. Explore a variety of forging techniques and build your blacksmithing skills in this two-day class. Learn basic skills making nails, “S” hooks and learn how to care for a forge and the equipment. This is the third in a series of four concerts to be held in the 1760 Mabee Farm Barn every full moon through August featuring local area singer songwriters. CHURCH FESTA ROTTERDAM — Our Lady Queen of Peace (formerly Our Lady of the Assumption Church), 210 Princetown Road, will hold its Annual Festa 2010 from Friday, Aug. 6, through Sunday, Aug. 8. CHICKEN ON THE MENU ROTTERDAM — Hilderbrand-Davis VFW Post 1895, 609 Draper Ave., will hold a chicken bake from 1 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25. The menu will include half a chicken, salad, baked potato, corn on the cob, roll, dessert. The cost is $10 for adults, $3.50 for children 5 and under.
PUMPKIN PARTY SCHENECTADY — Rotterdam Square, 93 W. Campbell Road, will host its fourth annual Pumpkin Party from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday in the Food Court. Children under the age of 12 are invited to the free event. They will choose a pumpkin to paint and decorate, Halloween crafts, face painting, treats and more.
