Really, Bumble, I thought you knew better by now. For a Republican, they give up their seat to run for another office (as Duncan L. Hunter, R-San Diego is doing in his run for President). Democrats don't do that. Can't have a day without having power over someone and being able to tax them!
I'm hoping that when the County Council raises taxes a few more times that the residents will wake up and see that change in indeed needed in this county and start voting the guilty ones out of office.

Regrettably, I suspect that this will not happen. I attended the public hearing held for the proposed nearly double digit increase (9.7%) in the Schenectady County property tax rate. There were about a dozen people who attended the meeting. Most of those were representatives of county departments or organizations funded by public revenues who were requesting increases in funding/staffing. There were only a few people who spoke of the need for fiscal restraint, financial responsibility, and lower property taxes.

If that's truly the case then the County County will tax us to the point where we will no longer be able to pay our bills and we'll all be on welfare.
And we were worried about the Town re-val????? I say NYS from the top down has had a trickle down effect of nothing more than crap crap crap going drip drip drip.......I can still hear the sucking sound......who is running that machine????....

I have to agree with you Brad. When 60% of the people are on some form of public assistance, the scales are out of balance right from the start. Only 40% would be impacted by higher taxes and the only ones affected by it.
Schenectady County Legislator Joe Suhrada has referred to county Legislature Chairwoman Susan Savage as a “little steamroller” [Dec. 13 Gazette]. I prefer to think of the chair of the county Legislature not as someone who operates a steamroller, but as someone who is very skilled at driving the bus. That is, she is someone who understands that leadership means getting people who agree on where they want to go, but disagree on how they want to get there, to successfully reach their destination. A few years ago Legislator Suhrada was vice chairman of the county Legislature, and the county was stalled by the side of the road because he didn’t know how to get the bus going in any direction. Four years ago, I supported Susan Savage for chairwoman because I felt she possessed the leadership skills the county needed — if we Democrats were to make good on our promise of real change — right now. I believe I made the right choice. Over the past four years Chairwoman Savage has demonstrated time after time that leadership requires getting disparate elements to work together and that working together works. Working together has produced new jobs and new private sector investment in our towns and in our city. At last the bus is moving, the engine is running, the gears are engaged and we’re headed in the right direction. Legislator Suhrada has demonstrated a talent for purveying perfidious, partisan pontification. Chairwoman Savage has proven that she knows how to lead. I’ll take real leadership and real change over a pithy quote any day of the week. On Jan. 1, I’ll be voting “aye” for a proven leader — Susan Savage. SCHENECTADY County lawmakers to take oaths today BY MICHAEL LAMENDOLA Gazette Reporter
Eight people will take the oath of office for the Schenectady County Legislature, and the 14-member body will select a chairperson today. U.S. Rep. Michael McNulty, D-Green Island, will conduct the swearing-in ceremony, scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. McNulty plans to retire at the end of 2008 after 20 years. Democrats, including Susan Savage of the county Legislature and Schenectady Mayor Brian Stratton, have said they are interested in the seat. Taking the oath of office are Michael Petta, D-Schenectady, Vincent DiCerbo, D-Schenectady, Gary Hughes, D-Schenectady, and Tony Jasenski, D-Rotterdam, all of whom won re-election to four-year terms in November; and Republicans Robert Farley, R-Glenville, and James Burhmaster, R-Glenville, who also won re-election in November. Also taking the oath are newcomers Democrat Jeff McDonald of Schenectady and Republican Angelo SantaBarbara of Rotterdam. Savage, D-Niskayuna, is expected to win another two-year term as chairwoman of the Legislature. This would be her third term heading the caucus of 10 Democrats. Democrat Michael Eidens, D-Niskayuna, resigned effective Tuesday, but majority Democrats expect to fill his seat later this month, bringing the caucus to 11. Farley is expected to be re-elected minority leader, for his third two-year term. He was first elected to the Legislature in 1993 and has served in many leadership roles, including chair of the Legislature from 2000-2001.
