City Police continued keeping watch over the apartment of a missing woman Thursday, preserving it in case further examination is needed later.
Denise Hart, 43, of 15 Lafayette St., was reported missing last week. She has not been seen since returning home from the night shift at her job Nov. 11, police have said.
Police investigating her disappearance have said it was out of character for her to miss work and go nearly three weeks without contacting family or friends.
Police were also given pause when they checked her apartment, two sources familiar with the investigation confirmed Thursday. Her mattress, as well as her bedding, was missing.
Schenectady Police spokesman Lt. Brian Kilcullen said Thursday that the case was still one of a missing person. Police put out her information and her picture this week hoping to learn where she is.
He characterized the police vigil at her apartment as standard procedure in such cases. They want it preserved.
“If the investigation brings us back to the apartment, we want to make sure it’s intact,” Kilcullen said. “We don’t want it disturbed while we’re sorting out
    the facts.”
Hart has one child, who was not living with her at the time, police have said. She is believed to have family in Pennsylvania.
A woman by her name from Schenectady is registered with the state as a licensed practical nurse, licensed since 1989.
Hart is described as a black female, 5 feet, 7 inches tall, weighing 145 pounds with brown hair and black eyes.
Anyone who may have seen or heard from Hart since Nov. 11 is asked to call Schenectady police at 382-5263.

With body found, search now on for Schenectady woman's killer
April 10, 2008
By Steven Cook (Contact)
Gazette Reporter

MENANDS — The body found last week in Menands is that of missing Schenectady resident Denise Hart, police confirmed this afternoon.
Authorities used DNA to match the remains to the missing woman.
The investigation now turns to finding out who killed the 45-year-old nurse and mother of a 7-year-old child.
“My daughter has lost a mother,” Hart’s former husband, Robert Hart, said this afternoon. “My concern is that somebody out there needs to be caught.”
Robert Hart said he doesn’t intend to break the news to their daughter until Friday.
Detectives from Schenectady, Colonie, Menands and the state police are now conducting a joint investigation into Hart’s death.
But prosecution of her killer, when that person is found, will be done in Schenectady, Schenectady County District Attorney Robert Carney said. That decision was made after discussions with Albany County District Attorney P. David Soares.
Authorities believe she was killed in Schenectady County, though Carney declined to say whether they believe it happened inside her downtown Schenectady apartment.
Sources have said Hart’s mattress and bedding were missing when police arrived at her apartment.
Hart’s dismembered body was found April 1 wrapped in plastic in a wooded area behind an apartment building at 52 Clifford Road. The body was missing its head, hands and feet, delaying positive identification.
Hart, of Wade Lupe Apt. 86, was last seen alive Nov. 11.
She worked nights on Keyes Avenue at a group home there, state officials confirmed Thursday. Relatives reported her missing the last week in November.
Robert Hart said he has been in contact with the Schenectady Police detectives on the case, Jack Sims and Robert Buchanan. He said he has total confidence that they will solve the case.
Robert Hart said he met Denise about 11 years ago when both lived in Queens. They moved to Schenectady when their daughter was born, he said. The two had since separated.
“We wanted to raise our daughter in a place that was a little quieter,” he said.
He said his wife loved her job as a nurse. The job offered her the chance to help people.
“Denise was a very strong and intelligent person,” Hart said. “She was very full of life.
“Her daughter misses her.”

Police seek public's aid in solving '07 killing
By PAUL NELSON, Staff writer

SCHENECTADY — The trail has grown cold in the grisly killing in 2007 of a city mother and nurse whose decapitated body was found behind a Menands apartment complex.

Schenectady Police Lt. Eric Clifford said the Denise Hart homicide investigation remains active and is assigned to a city detective but police are still hoping for the public's help.

"We're still working leads and still developing information that will assist us in identifying a suspect and ultimately lead to an arrest," said Clifford during a recent interview. "We can't do it on our own and need the community for assistance."...................>>>>.................>>>>................Read more: http://www.timesunion.com/loca.....49.php#ixzz1jX8cYc1R
