Why is Sch’dy fire department so much better than police?

    A great deal of ink has been used regarding the Schenectady Police Department. Not much ever gets used discussing the other big public safety department.
    The Schenectady Fire Department is a large and complicated force that provides firefighting, advanced life support, emergency medical support, as well as other emergency operations 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It always seems to run like a fine watch. Part of the reason it runs well is good management, but also the strong traditions that every fi refighter learns, and becomes part of, as they mature with the job.
    Those traditions are: Clear the barn in less than two minutes, day or night; get to the call and be ready to deal with the problem; always look and act like a professional; follow orders and rules with military precision.
    I retired from the department 10 years ago to pursue a career in risk management, but I still remember being proud to tell Schenectadians that when they call the Fire Department, help will be on the way by the time they hang up the phone. The fact that the department responds to over 10,000 calls a year hasn’t changed that.

Well, here's another point on this...what ISN'T better than the SPD with everything that's gone on lately.  I'm glad that the SFD is such a great group and I'm sure they work hard at what they do.  The SPD has just had their butt handed to them lately, and mostly by themselves for their own actions.

So the question being...'WHY IS THE SFD BETTER THAN THE SPD'?

Answer...LEADERSHIP!!!!!!!!!
