NO, it is NOT a joke.   On, you said "federal dollars" paid for it.   Oh so you are saying that the federal government has a money tree they pick money off of.   Money falls from the sky so the feds can hand it out.   Just like some 15 years ago, the city school district LIED to homeowners about the cost of the building an UNNCESSARY swimming pool, dance studio, arts wing, etc (notice the kids can dance but they fail reading and math).   The district said "it won't cost the taxpayer anything because the state is paying for it.

Obviously your lack of paying property taxes means you have no clue.

Erie Blvd was redone for the tax exempt millionaires and billionaires.

And would you care to address the FACT that not only are the city taxpayers paying for Erie Blvd via the pocket out of which they pay federal taxes, they are also paying the property taxes for the millionaire Marcella AND they are paying the taxes on his delinquent taxes.

Care to address the fact that the homeowners in the city pay the highest taxes around, AND they have to pay the taxes of the TAX DEADBEATS like Gil,pore and Mary Dallesandro (metroplex preferred architect and McCarthy's political crony on the board of assessment--a couple who hasn't paid taxes in three years.   And care to address why the mayor and King Philips political crony camera guy filming city council meetings got $15,000 of tax money that he is NOT paying back, an interest free mortgage from the taxpayers, AND he has not paid taxes in three years?

Now would you care to address why the financially struggling homeowners pay the highest taxes around and hey cannot get their own streets paved??????

Ah, no response.   Didn't think you had the guts to address why homeowners pay taxes and cant get their own streets fixed but they have to pay for the streets serving the downtown millionaires.

Didn't think you would have the guts to address the three years of non-payment of taxes by political cronies and they city is NOT foreclosing on them.

But it is very well noted that you won't even remotely consider moving INTO the city to live -- not by renting NOR by buying a house

Living in complete ignorance must be all sunshine and unicorns.

Federal dollars are from our front pockets.

City/county/town/state dollars are taken from the rear.

I mean it's where we take it in the rear.

It was "free" federal dollars everyone, yippee!

Over 50% of all corporations pay absolutely no income tax, and haven't for over 10 years.

You support doing more for them at the local levels too.

In the very first post in this thread, it is reported that the federal government is paying for 80%, the state government is paying 15% and the city is paying 5% of the project costs.  The amounts paid by the federal and state governments are likely fixed and based on initial estimates.  Did the project costs come in under budget?  Either way, the city residents are paying for the work being done.

the money tree IS the taxpayers!  And the jokes on YOU....cause no one has the balls or brains to stop paying their taxes!!
Funny how city hall is filled when they are discussing a stupid casino.....but empty when taxes are being discussed!!

i'm tired of hearing about the poor overtaxed taxpayers who reside, by choice, in the city of Schenectady. they have the power and always did!! DON'T PAY YOUR TAXES!! simple as that!!!

It is noticeable that the concern over the City Animal Shelter draws more of an audience at City Hall, than concerned citizens who feel the property taxes are too high.

It's not bitching and moaning, it is doing research and stating the truths.   We don't live in the city so we can't vote these people out.

We state truths, unlike the likes that DV tells.    And we ask, what have the homeowners in the city gotten in return for the taxpayers funding all this redoing of downtown.   It is very well noted that NO ONE EVER replies by listing positives that the homeowners get.   Certain people post messages cheering for the wild uncontrolled spending of taxpayer money, claiming the city is in a renaissance, saying the mayor and his team are dong a wonderful job, buy these same people REFUSE to list any positives for those paying for it.   They REFUSE to speak about the impact on the tax base, the tax bills, the property values, home sales and home sale prices, the ever increasing tax foreclosures, the tax deadbeat political cronies who the city will not foreclose upon, the reductions in essential services, etc.

why the heck are you so hell bent on getting dv to agree with you???  who gives a crap??? FYI...and I hate to admit this, but there are many folks who DO go downtown and support it...and they don't live in the city either!!! so lets get over the dv kick....k? It's old and foolish! And if  you don't live in the city....what do YOU care since you can't make a 'system change' difference?

FACT.....The 'poor' property owners CAN change the system by not paying their taxes.
FACT.....The majority don't go to city council meetings unless it's about a casino or the animal shelter.
FACT.....They are NOT victims.
FACT.....They DO have a choice
FACT....THE PEOPLE DO HAVE THE POWER!!!

here's some FACTS and TRUTHS for ya!

Tell me what happens if you are a homeowners and you don't pay your taxes?   Come on, answer the question.   WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU DO NOT PAY YOUR PROPERTY AND SCHOOL TAXES?

Suppose you bought your house 23 years ago, bought your house for $100,000, paid your mortgage off in 20 years,  You bought a house for $100,000, with interest (of varying rates over 220 years) you have probably paid out with mortgage PLUS interest about $200,000.

You stopped paying your taxes two years ago.   What happens?

You do NOT and CANNOT change the system.   The city will seize your house and the city is NOT, I repeat NOT, going to pay you one friggin penny when they take your house.   Obviously bumble, you have no clue whatsoever what "tax foreclosure" means.   The city is NOT "buying" your house from you.  If you have a paid off house, you lose EVERYTHING,   If you paid $200,000 in mortgage and interest, you lose ALL of that.   If you spent $50,000 to redo your kitchen, you have lost that money.   If you put in a new furnace 5 yeas ago and it cost you $7,000, you do NOT get to take the furnace out of the house, you have lost that money,   All the money you have spent in maintenance, repairs, remodels you lose.

What do you think happens if you fail to pay taxes due to the IRS?   Or the state?   If you owe the state, then the state will seize your federal tax refund if you get one.   If you owe the IRS then the IRS will seize your state tax refund if you are getting one.   Even those level of governments can put liens on your house if you owe them taxes.

So again, tell me, what happens when a homeowner fails to pay your prop and school taxes?

FACT....THE PEOPLE DO HAVE THE POWER!!!

here's some FACTS and TRUTHS for ya!

FACT:   If the city came clean and provided an accurate accounting of every penny of tax money spent on downtown, and if people knew that all the property was tax exempt, they would vote them out.

FACT:   The city LIES to people and so do cheerleaders.

FACT:   The dems LIE when they go out campaigning.   I remember a couple years ago the county level dems claimed in their campaign flyers that they lowered taxes.

FACT:   People have two jobs and can't attend council meetings.   FACT:   People have children and must tend to their children's needs, school functions, helping kids with homework.   FACT:   People are caregivers for elderly parents, and actually many times have children AND elderly parents to take care of.   FACT:   Homeowners have no time to attend council meetings because they can't afford to hire contractors to make repairs and such--the homeowners come home from work, have dinner, and then they have to work on repairs and stuff themselves, the DIY.

Yes people have power.   However, they need to be told the truth so they can use the power to do what is necessary   There is absolutely no transparency in the city and county and plex.   Remember how the former mayor of BS back some years ago, included in his budget a raise for himself but NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER told the taxpayers about it but thankfully the wonderful bright minds of Riggi, Zollinger, and Bartz were able to get the truth out to the people.   The city does NOT post the full proposed budget in the newspaper.   The city does NOT send each and every taxpayer a copy of the proposed budget.   And when you look at a budget online, it is NOT written in simple language.   it's a bunch of legalese and financial speak and the average people in the city are not CPA's or attorneys.  Hell, the city does NOT even publish ANYWHERE WHATSOEVER, the breakdown of water and sewer charges!  Nowhere on the city's website is there a listing of each and every employee, title, their salary, the amount of health insurance premium the city pays on their behalf, the amount the city is contributing to their pension, etc.   A city can say "X% increase in health insurance costs" but what does that translate to in dollars?   How many plans are available to employees?   Suppose there are two plans.   For Plan A, what is the full share premium last year?   What is the full share premium this year?   What is the dollar amount that the city contributed last year?   This year?   For Plan B what are the answers to those same questions?  The budget will usually say something worded like "increase in budget of 4%, it will result in a tax levy increase of 5%."   Now, show me in a budget document where the city will say, "that means the tax RATE goes from [again, hypothetically] $10.14 per thousand to $11.27 per thousand which represents X% increase in the tax RATE and will translate to an increase in tax BILL of $X for a house assessed at $100,000 which translates to a 6% increase in the tax BILL.   However, since property values have fallen 20%, the tax BILL increase using the market value of the house actually is increasing by 30%."    You see what I'm getting at?   The city is NOT explaining things to homeowners in the budget.   And the example I just wrote about the taxes should be clearly spelled out in ALL newspaper media.   What happens is that the city references a percent increase in the budget and tax LEVY, but they NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER state explicitly what the tax RATE increase will be.   NO ONE knows that until they see the rate on the tax bill they receive in the last week of December.   And the best way to prove that is just to look at the people in Rotterdam who suffered a $500 increase in their school tax bill.   The city school district was talking an "increase" of, I don't remember offhand, maybe 2%, 3%, give or take.   NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER did the school district tell people that they would incur a 20% increase in their tax BILLLS.   The people found out ONLY AFTER they received the bill in the mail.   This is NOT transparency!
