The bulk of that $14 million is a FEDERAL grant that can ONLY be spent on the Erie Blvd project ,.. otherwise it must be sent back to the Federal government.
Mont Pleasant needs a federal grant ---- I was part of the Mont Pleasant neighborhood group that got
a nearly $200,000 grant for Mont Pleasant a few years back.   Unfortunately, the city and the
neighborhood group chose to spend the money on trees and planters  --- which didn't do much to help
the Mont Pleasant business district.

Then maybe we should send the money back so it can be applied to the federal deficit, as I bet that you can't state a place in the Constitution that gives the federal government the power to pay for something like this.

The money was already appropriated .. so if we sent it back .. the grant would just go to another city in
another state,

A lawyer would probably say that it falls under the "promote the general welfare" provision of the
Constitution --- and since the Federal government has been giving out such aid/grants for at least 75
years without being declared unconstitutional by the Federal Courts .. I feel safe in spending the money.

Good, then we can criticize that politician that gave away so much money for stupid sh*t, when the working class are losing their jobs, their healthcare, their houses ... why must WE always be the laughing stock?

Give it back!

to "promote the general welfare" is not one of the choices that the federal government has to spend tax money.  While these words are used in the preamble of Article I, Section VIII of the constitution, it is not a reason that they can use to spend money.  Instead, there is a specific list, which follows the preamble:
Quoted Text
Section 8. The Congress shall have power to lay and collect taxes, duties, imposts and excises, to pay the debts and provide for the common defense and general welfare of the United States; but all duties, imposts and excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;

That is the explanation of what they are to do, and next for the list of how the money is allowed to be spent:
(and you can't tell me that Erie Boulevard is a "post road.")

Quoted Text
To borrow money on the credit of the United States;
To regulate commerce with foreign nations, and among the several states, and with the Indian tribes;
To establish a uniform rule of naturalization, and uniform laws on the subject of bankruptcies throughout the United States;
To coin money, regulate the value thereof, and of foreign coin, and fix the standard of weights and measures;
To provide for the punishment of counterfeiting the securities and current coin of the United States;
To establish post offices and post roads;
To promote the progress of science and useful arts, by securing for limited times to authors and inventors the exclusive right to their respective writings and discoveries;
To constitute tribunals inferior to the Supreme Court;
To define and punish piracies and felonies committed on the high seas, and offenses against the law of nations;
To declare war, grant letters of marque and reprisal, and make rules concerning captures on land and water;
To raise and support armies, but no appropriation of money to that use shall be for a longer term than two years;
To provide and maintain a navy;
To make rules for the government and regulation of the land and naval forces;
To provide for calling forth the militia to execute the laws of the union, suppress insurrections and repel invasions;
To provide for organizing, arming, and disciplining, the militia, and for governing such part of them as may be employed in the service of the United States, reserving to the states respectively, the appointment of the officers, and the authority of training the militia according to the discipline prescribed by Congress;
To exercise exclusive legislation in all cases whatsoever, over such District (not exceeding ten miles square) as may, by cession of particular states, and the acceptance of Congress, become the seat of the government of the United States, and to exercise like authority over all places purchased by the consent of the legislature of the state in which the same shall be, for the erection of forts, magazines, arsenals, dockyards, and other needful buildings; — And
To make all laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into execution the foregoing powers, and all other powers vested by this Constitution in the government of the United States, or in any department or officer thereof.

Hmm. I don't see mandated health care purchases in there either, nor the ownership of private corporations (GM, etc).

You sure that's the US Constitution Kevin? Sure doesn't sound like the last two years here

Yeah, well, this is the thing that they call a "living document," while I've never had a piece of paper that took a breath, and never ate or drank anything, either, unless I spilled something on it and it soaked it up.

Until the US Supreme Court rules federal grants for road projects or urban renewal unconstitutional  ...
I will consider them constitutional.

As for insurance -- I have made my position clear on that -- so I won't repeat it again.

Take the Belanger's School of Nursing off Erie Blvd as well. Ellis misappropriated that $2.2 million dollar gift and will now have to move the nursing school to McClellen Street. So, that's the nursing school lost, Frank Gallo gone, Grossmans gone....good thing this $14 million dollar grant is only going to focus on the opposite side of Erie....

Good thing they are creating traffic circles. That way when travelers see the havoc created in our City, they can easily turn around and circle back home.

What is the definition of renassance?????

Increased crime?
Daytime shootings?
Increaed taxes
Less services?
Elimination of vital fire dept services?
MASSIVE increase in vacant housing?
A goverment that is NOT ELECTED by it's citizens (but rather APPOINTED by the party cronies)?
A city without  parks?
Abandoned properties?
Parks overgrown with weeds
Parks with no maintenance----trash strewn all over, ciggie butts left all over.
A city with poorly plowed streets
A main thoroghfare of bumper to bumper traffic jams---causing it to take a half hour to drive a few miles?
A city paramedic service that can't respond only a few blocks away?
MASSIVE increase in derelict buildings
Government theaters?   (sounds VERY socialist, actually communist)
Panhandlers, bums, and other mental cases hanging out in the taxpayer paid downtown

So, tell us what IS your definition of renaissance?   Which of the above?

Again, you do NOT pay the high taxes so you don't even have a clue as to what the people of this city and county go through when they have to write that check out to the big spenders who don't even live in the county!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Think it's about time the City looks to getting their "workers" and themselves in order. People who work for the City should LIVE in the City. They should pay the same taxes we do and have a vested interest in the City. When Stratton said he needed to either lay off or get City workers to retire early...then he should DO IT! Curb tax - an abomination! Want families and taxpayers to leave? Keep taxing them for million dollar waste-of-money projects rather than investing time and money in their neighborhoods. And Proctors, well that's a tax evasion crime.

If you don't help the homeowners, they will leave. There will be MORE abandoned homes, more slumlords, more drugs and more crime. Better put a tourniquet on, it's turning into a bloody mess.

What is the reason you REFUSE to answer?    You keep making that statement, but where are the facts to prove it?

WHY do you keep speaking in support of ever higher crime, ever higher taxes, ever more murders, ever more derelict buildings, ever more people leaving in droves, ever more cuts in services, etc?????
