If I was an owner of property located in the State Street / Erie Boulevard corridor, I would be very concerned about my real estate interests. The government is taking title by eminent domain to the buildings in which the adult bookstore and the gun shop are located. Eminent domain is deemed to be permissible in cases that serve the public interest, not for use as a means to eliminate entities that are deemed undesireable.
The placement of a rotary at the intersection of Erie Blvd and South Church Street is illogical. One of the four directions (eastbound) from the rotary cannot be traveled as there is no existing roadway. South Church Street is one-way and thus a rotary entrance isn't warranted. There is no public interest to be served in installing a rotary at that location.
The city of Schenectady is threatening to jail and fine owners of properties for which code violations have been issued. That is, unless the owner agrees to deed the property over to the city.
I predict that we will soon learn that the Union Street Bed and Breakfast is the subject of code violations or eminent domain proceedings.
