You can tell that there's an election coming up as the stories are starting to fly. There were a number of errors when the reval was done as proven by the people who paid for their own assessment to be done by qualified real estate appraisers. The difference from GAR's appraisal and the Realtors appraisal were miles apart and that leads to the mistrust in the GAR reval that still exists today. The taxpayers who had problems with their reval should have been addressed at the time of the reval not pushed away by the town assessor and being told that there was nothing he could do as that also angered residents. It cost the town $750,000 to get the reval done and there are many taxpayers who feel that we didn't get what we paid for.

The GOP dumped John Macejka Jr., the assessor who oversaw the reval, as soon as they took control, in January 2008. That his replacement, Craig Surprise, would have some differences of opinion over the quality of GAR’s work is to be expected — assessing property isn’t a totally objective science. But even if there were some errors in judgment, and outright omissions (as town officials claim), that hardly seems grounds for a suit to recover the project’s entire cost.
First dontcha just love the way the gazette used the word 'dumped' when referring to macejka? Priceless! Second, the way I see it, if there are issues, it apparently rests on GAR and macejka. It was GAR who performed the reval and it was macejka who oversaw it!

Still bitchin about paying your fair share in taxes there Bumble.  Hehe  Cruise around town and ask public officials and residents who they'd love to have back in the assessor's office.  Pretty funny that Stevie Ego, Mertz and Signore have been or will be "dumped" soon also because of the way they handled the reval.  No wonder they tried to deep six it.  Not one of them were up to the challenge of being fair to the taxpayers.  Politics is one thing, leadership is another.  The strongest leaders in recent Rotterdam government now work for other munys and sit back and chuckle at the circus called the Rotterdam Town Board.  Trust me.

Ignore him BT. Anyone who would support the pathetic job "Sole Assessor" Mastro did in the City is obviously off his meds. Mastro should have been fired already for his orchestrated assessment day debacle.

It seems funny to me that the Paolino and the Dems pushed the reval down our throats even though there were questions about it. It caused most of the taxpayers in Rotterdam to pay more taxes to Schdy County due to the increase in property value. The next move was for John to flee to the city and the Dems just sit back and count the money coming in, coincidence, probably not IMHO.

Hey Shadow explain to us why Nisky, Schenectady, Glenville, Albany, Saratoga, Guilderland, E Greenbush, Stilwater, Bethlehem, Schodack, et al did their revals before and after John Paolino's administration's recommendations?  Was that to pour money into Schenectady County.  You idiot!!  You like the Rotterdam Town GOP have not a clue on the issue.  Keep posting your absurd comments.  It really helps the guys out in November.

First, the jury is still out on Surprise. He has a ways to go in his process. And for all we know, these people you mention may have been getting a pass all of these years by macejka. I'm not implying that that is the case...but surely stranger things have happened in this town!

Second, it was macejka who was paid by the taxpayers to support and oversee the GAR reval. The people felt abandoned by him. He showed no one any support. Will Surprise do any better? Perhaps yes and perhaps no....time will tell! IMHO

I would like to know the difference collected in taxes from prior to the reval and after the reval......does anyone know the numbers?

Because,,,as a taxpayer(paying my share of THE LEVY, county and town) I WANT TO KNOW THE VALUE OF MY PURCHASE.....
does anyone else want to know....

I dont give a rats you know what about the assessor/Reps/Dems or otherwise.....there are channels to follow other than
suing the company.....it is past generations fault for sitting on their cheap a!@es and never moving forward.....did they
REALLY think that GE would be powdering Rotterdams a!@ forever????

time to look forward and move on.......

The plan worked so good getting more money from Rotterdam why not get more from the rest of the county. We're talking about Schenectady County not the rest of the state.Explain to me why Schenectady County pays one of the highest tax rates in the country and gets nothing for our money and why the Metroplex Audit hasn't been released yet if the usless liberal Dems in this County are doing such a good job.

Oh Shadow, the dems are running the ENTIRE show, and miserably at that, and yet there are some out there that are trying to blame the reps for something they aren't even allowed to be a part of.

They nit pick about the stupidist things while the ENTIRE county is going to hell in a hand basket led by the liberal dems. And to show you how shallow, undeducated, uniformed and short sighted they are....they will say it is the reps fault.

Like the country song says....'God is great, Beer is good and PEOPLE ARE CRAZY!!!

Maybe someday Bumble, the sheeple in this town/county will wake up and vote some people into office that care for the taxpayer for a change and not just do what's best for their political careers.
