WOW...over 5000 applications and Ms. Lazzari was the only one chosen in Schenectady to recieve the max of $25,000.  She must just be lucky.

This doesn't break down to say where these actually came from.  Maybe the true fact is that Ms. Lazzari was the only one IN the county to apply?  Is it a possibility?  Yes.  It's it probable?  I don't know.

Especially being early in the time period where these grants were being handed out, maybe there wasn't so much of a rush for people to run to get them.  Sort of like the Restore NY grants that we now have to be more sure of what the project is once we submit the paperwork to give ourselves the best chance to get the money to make time improvements that are necessary.

I ask again, Cicero, is it a possibility that this was on the "up and up" and is just being brought up as an issue at a time where Ms. Lazzari is coming up for re-election?

If this is such a big deal, where was the complaining since day 1, 6 years ago, that there was something wrong with her getting this grant?

Okay, AGAIN, no one is doing anything 'illegal'. However, in the scope of things, and being that we live in the highest taxed state in the country, I don't quite see the big importance of BARNS. And I don't give a hoot how old they are, or how much history they represent. If this state/counties  continue to raise taxes as they have been, this entire area will be history.

In the scope of things here people, with many other pressing issues that are facing us, what role does a 'barn' play here? I would much rather see my tax dollar going toward infrustructure, development with good paying, sustaining jobs. Ya know, let's start from the ground up.

And if Ms.Lazzari obtained her grant on the 'up and up' or not, I could give a hoot about that as well. Cause they all do it!!And it all should be stopped. All of this unecessary expenitures, being paid by our tax dollars needs to come to a crashing hault. Metroplex is just another fine example of how our taxdollar is being mis-spent. Not to mention the PBA and the teachers unions. Tax dollars that clearly does not come back into the communities.

And to add insult to my already injured tax dollar, I have to pay to restore barns!!!  Paleeezzzee!!

Bigk75, are you that much of a sheeple that you can't find the hipocracy of her saying she wants to cut pork barrell spending, while sitting there benefiting from it??

BigK, of course it is being brought up at election time...DUUUUUUHHHHH!!!  She's an elected official.  If she wasn't an elected official, me and everybody else could care less if she recieved grant money.  The reason why it now matters is because in a representative democracy such as the US of A is, Ms. Lazzari's position as legislator affords her powers which directly influence where our tax dollars are spent.  Since her prior political stance against pork barrell spending and her personal actions of applying and recieving pork barrell funds is contradictory. I believe it is fair game to question her character.

Maybe you bigK, will blindly follow anybody with an (R) next to their name.....But I will question our elected officials integrity, regardless of party affiliation.

You gotta love these Dem left wing nuts who have no platform of their own so all they can do is smear their opponents with half truths and lies. Yes the barn was repaired with pork and that's one area that has to change if we're ever going to cut taxes and spending. The money was available at the time and would have gone to someone. At least it was spent in Schdy county.

I don't care if it is Ms.Lazzari or Joe Blow down the street who got $25,000 to restore their barn. I DO care that while some people can't even afford to fix up their houses, their tax dollar is going to fix up barns!! Now I think there is something wrong with this  picture...don't you? This grant shouldn't even be available. Not to anyone or anything, including the historic buildings downtown. One being Proctors. Or the Stockade.

If people want to own historic property, than THEY better have the means to maintain it. If not, don't come crying to the government(taxpayers) to make it nice for you. This state is full of foolish grants such as this one. And all the while, people can't maintain themselves.

Please note, that this in no way would stop me from voting for Ms.Lazzari. She is still the best candidate for the job. And perhaps after this 'barn fiasco', she and other politicians will think twice before taking taxpayer money for themselves or promising it to someone else or some government program.

I agree with you in part. The dems are clearly left wing nuts with absolutely no platform, direction or vision. (actually scarey)
But the money spent on Ms.Lazzari's barn does not benefit Rotterdam/Schenectady County at all. It just increases the value of her property. So Ms.Lazzari and her family actually were the sole beneficiary of the grant.
We should look into seeing how many other rediculous grants are available out there at our expense!

Bumble the problem as I see it is the grant money is being awarded for the wrong things. The grants should go to benefit the whole town/city. The grant money should go for drainage problems, sewers, and other infrastructure that's so badly needed in this town.

BINGO there shadow. But  you are just making way too much sense here!
There are too many rediculous grants, government programs, too many handouts, too many corrupt unions and too many politicians being bought by special interest groups. And we are the slugs that work everyday and give our hard earned taxed money over to these theives.
Come on folks, we have to become informed and weed out (vote out) the 'theives' and vote in the candidates that will cut spending and represent the people.
