Rotterdam must get tough, again, with owners of noisy plaza
In the early 1970s, Rotterdam approved the construction of Royce Shopping Center on 35 acres of beautiful woodlands on Altamont Avenue, nestled in the middle of a quiet, residential neighborhood community. Over the years, the shopping center has grown and the resulting noise has worsened. The former Royce Shopping Center has now become Hannaford Plaza. Today, Rotterdam residents living close by are being awakened each morning by the load roar of a parking lot sweeper, as early as 6 a.m. seven days a week, as the sweeper also makes a pass back and forth on the access roads surrounding the plaza. Many of these residents have bedroom windows within 35 feet of the sweeper, as it roars past their windows. The town board and I had several meetings with the Hannaford Plaza owners in 2006, trying to get this problem under control. The owner’s representative eventually promised that their sweeper would not be on the access roads that surround the main parking lot before 8 a.m. The Rotterdam supervisor at that time told the owner that if they didn’t follow through on their commitment, he would sponsor a local law that would prohibit sweeping anywhere at Hannaford Plaza before 8 a.m., similar to what was done nine years ago to regarding waste pickups. The owner and the contractor who maintains the property have chosen to totally ignore the 8 a.m. commitment. It’s now time for the town to prohibit sweeping anywhere at the plaza before 8 a.m. Furthermore, with winter fast approaching, the town also needs to put in place some additional noise controls at this location to prohibit the plowing, dumping and/or transporting of snow on these access roads between 9 p.m. and 7 a.m. WARREN DECKER Rotterdam
And this is what happens Mr. Decker when residential is mixed so closely to commercial properties. And I wonder if Mr. Decker was there first or was Hannaford. Since clearly, if he moved to that area after the Hannaford Plaza....than it leaves him with little to complain about.

Is this guy nuts? People have to go to work there and need a place to park. With pharmacies there, people need to have access to meds.
Oh, and what does this guy say about the town plowing town roads between those hours?

GOOD POINT. Those plows wake me up all the time during the night, but I am greatful that they are doing their job.

"Many" ??? Hardly "bedroom windows within 35 feet? ??? Hardly
Nothing like stretching the truth.
Looks like the guy probably owned his house since it was built (Pyle Rd, anyone can look him up). OK, so he was here quite a while.
The back yards are much more than 35 feet in length. And it's only a few houses that are even bordered by that road behind the buildings, if that's the road he's talking about. Street sweepers and plows need to do their work when there are few cars.
Mr Decker, if someone is having a heart attack while shopping or working between 9 pm and 7 am, how do you propose the ambulance get there if the lot and roads are not plowed?
Why am I bothering, Mr Decker probably doesn't have a computer to read this

MC1...I couldn't agree with you more. And I know the area you are speaking of and I agree about the location of the back yards. And I also agree, and like I have stated before....I am greatful when I hear the plows go by. I also feel safe knowing that if there was a medical emergency, the bad roads won't delay an ambulance. Gee, what does Mr. Decker do when his neighbors are mowing, weed wacking or snowblowing their property. Does he put a time retraint on that also? And he wants yet ANOTHER law? Geezzzz!
