Laws are only as good as their enforcement, if the police and parole officers don't do the follow up and check to see where the sex offenders really are then no law will ever work.

Why are they out???.....because they abstained in prison???...They became celibate in prison???

We certainly have made laws so compassionate that they have lost the deterring effect that they were made to evoke in society......I would be angry if I were a police officer(dont waste my time, and I would find a new profession) anarchy is around the corner.....

knowledge knowledge every where but not a lick of wisdom......what are we to do??

This may not be Deadwood,,,There are no animal sacrifices at the temples....but we need to take our medicine and get rid of Dr.Phil, Oprah and the rest of those 'experts'.....

we certainly have become good at talking our way out of anything that might cost us more $$ and still refused to take responsibility...money is only as good as it's value.....

What does it mean when we say "They/it/he/she is as good as gold."??  Is that where we draw the line??---------LOCK THEM UP......

I have come to realize that it really doesn't matter how many laws or how strict laws are. Whether there is a death penalty or not. These 'mentally abnormal' people do not stop their criminal behavior just because there is a law out there that says you can't. The law just give the courts and judges a set punishment for the crime. Crime is on the rise and there are more laws on the books today than ever....so I guess it just ain't workin'!

I say, strengthen the laws and uphold the punishments. And please get rid of the parole board! Let these 'menatally abnormal' people finish out their FULL sentence.

On the flip side...the legal system better do a better job also, of convicting the guilty and not the inocent that has been done in the past.

JoAnn,

What have I done to offend you?

If I were to run for any elected office, I would not get elected because I have integrity, morals, and conviction to my Conservative principles.  These principles that include smaller government, lower taxes, protection of the unborn, personal responsibility, right to bear arms, freedom of speech, etc. are unpopular in todays society where people believe that the government is the solution to their problems.

If I WERE elected, I would likely be assassinated in my first week in office when I challenged the "old guard" and/or told a constituent that he/she must take responsibilities for his/her actions and not look to the government to provide for him/her.

I thank you for your kind words of support.  I'll run if/when Rene does.  Perhaps, together, we can change the direction of our county.

How refreshing. I'm sure you could both gather enough support to make it happen, if you should both chose. I personally think the time is right. The State Assembly race seemed to prove that.

You guys really know how to make a Supervisor feel great.  Zim, you had me worried there for a minute, as I was reading, I couldn't help but think I was being bashed. I'm glad you added that last line.  I would be honored to serve with Zim, he has been a valuable asset and a driving force over the last few months.  We work well as a team.  He toots his own horn pretty good too, don't you think? The Last Frontier........the sign is gone.  The owner took it down last year and gave it to me to give to the Town.  No one wanted it, so it is in my garage.  I keep meaning to have it refurbished to hang in my office.  it does have a certain charm.

Certainly no bashing intended.  Meant only that I have little tolerance for the games that are played by (most of) those who
hold political office today.  Also, that my views may be too conservative for todays society.  As I have stated to you personally,
I'm firmly behind you if you decide to run for County Legislature after your imminent reelection in November as Town Supervisor.

Yes, I suppose that my statement could have been interpreted as braggadocio.  I must admit that I am proud of my conservative
views and won't apologize for that.

I hadn't see the Duanesburg sign for some time.  I thought that it may have been obscured by overgrowth.  It's kind of sad to hear
that it is gone.  Any chance that it might be installed in front of Town Hall?

Zim, if both you and Rene run for the County council then there would be 2 more responsible legislatures on that dysfunctional council. Note I didn't call you a politician Rene. On the down side Duanesburg would lose a pair of hard working people who care about their residents. I don't blame you guys for not running though who'd want to be thrown into a mess like the County Council.

senders,

That would, of course, be the first item on the agenda.  Toleration of cow tipping results in the distribution of cream in your milk being non-uniform.  I would advocate the installation of training wheels on all dairy cows in the county.
