Nice to see you on board. I am relatively new to this forum as well.
My new found friends (bumble, BK, shadow, senders, PoliticalIncorrect, JoAnn and others) should probably know that I too am a resident of Duanesburg. As you (Rene) are aware, I have been involved in the effort to pressure the county legislature to rescind Local Laws 03-07 and 04-07 (Kosiur's Laws), circulating petitions, attending Duanesburg Town Board Meetings, Rotterdam Town Board Meetings, and recently a Schenectady County Legislature meeting.
Like you, my actions are motivated by my fondness for my town, its people and its rural landscape and character. Our commitment is shared by dozens of our neighbors who have joined together to start a grassroots effort to pressure the County Legislators to rescind this ill-conceived and politically motivated legislation. Our actions have, to some degree, prompted (inspired?) residents of other towns to voice their opinions and to hold accountable those who are responsible.
Having been born at St. Claire's hospital (many years ago) and lived in Schenectady County and Saratoga County, it troubles me to see what has become of the City of Schenectady. A change in "leadership" is long overdue. I am encouraged by my belief that (to borrow a line from Mr. Amedore), "Change is Coming".
I am encouraged also by the comments made in this forum by those who post here. Most seem to share our concern and our desire and commitment to fix what ails Schenectady County. As bumble confesses, I too occasionally rant on this board, but try to stay focused on the relevant issues being discussed. Some of them are unique to the Town of Rotterdam. Others, pertain to the entire county, state, and nation.
Now that I have been "outed" (LOL), I will once again state on this board what I have told you personally. You and Carolina have both done a stellar job at representing the interests of your constituents. For your efforts, the people of Duanesburg owe both of you our gratitude. I would, without reservation, support you for higher level office if and when you decide to make such a move.
Well said Z2im, like you, Rene, and Carolina, most of the people who post on this site just want to better the town we live in and correct some of the problems that have been created in the past.
Thanks for your input, Z, and we hope that the change we bring along affects not only Rotterdam, but Princetown, Duanesburg, Mariaville, Pattersonville, Rotterdam Junction, Niskayuna and Schenectady.
Along with that, as you can see, we are looking at things also from a statewide, nationwide, and global level for what needs to be done and what can be done by us at our level. We WILL speak up and be heard. Are we some of the people that Hillary's new commercial says are the unseen? Well, not for long. We Will speak up. We WILL be heard. Things WILL change. But only with the hope that we have and the help of others. You cannot get change by sitting in a corner and mumbling. You have to get out there and make changes, and encourage others around you to do the same.
Rene my reference to you as a politician for the people was meant as a compliment to both you and Carolina as I feel you have the peoples best interest at heart. I just figured that anyone who has a political office is a politician no ill was intended.
Shadow, No offense taken. I will go along with the second part of the definition of a politician, but I draw the line there. I was really just teasing you. You will have to learn that I have a very dry and sarcastic sense of humor. One of my biggest problems is I think I'm funnier than I really am. It frequently gets me into trouble.

Then I must state, with no question...you're in the right place. There's many times that I have posted in here thinking that I might run for some office...then I think about somone reading my comments in here and using them against me.
I don't mind being teased and I'm glad that you're reading all of our posts and you can see that all we want is to improve our towns. Rene if you decide to run for another office or County Council in the future you can count on my vote as well.
We need to get rid of the dysfunction in the junction of Albany politics.....we need grassroots.......without fear and with goals....no looking back....

What we need is a whole lot more people like us to get very vocal about what we want our elected officials to do. There are a lot of lurkers that read the posts on this site but never actively voice their opinions. You're right Senders, we need a grassroots movement to take an active part, attend meetings, voice your concerns about what's happening in our town and what we want to happen.
I dont understand why folks dont speak up....is it for fear, misunderstanding, lack of interest....opinions-everyone has one---but out of discussions ideas with merit can be born....sometimes it can be debate, sometimes just plain poking fun, or just chit-chat......
These are our towns and neighborhoods.....we are responsible for their up-keep while we live here....I have to mow my lawn, pay my rent/mortgage, work, wash my windows, pick up the garbage that walmart leaves in the neighborhood, and I get to look at that fence everyday I come home from work(my hard work,I'll get off my soap box now)....
Anyhow, I think we all agree to all that in our own lives and we certainly dont need pandering politicians(sometimes it is our medicine we need to take)......It is bigger than our septic leachate filled back yards

I suspect that the reason that those in the silent majority don't speak out is that we are busy supporting our families and working, often more than one job, to pay for our homes, food, taxes, etc. and those who can't or won't work to support themselves. Meanwhile, those who are receiving government entitlements (welfare, social security, unemployment insurance, etc.) have abundant time to lobby the government and to support the special interest groups upon which they have become dependent.
If we, the working class, are to retake control of our democracy and shape the future of this great nation, we must each commit to taking an active role in our government. We need to set aside a few hours each week to attend meetings of government bodies, write Letters to the Editors of local newspapers, write to or email our elected representatives. and campaign for those candidates whose platforms embody our views on the important issues.
You got it, Zim...Make sure you keep us abreast of things up in the 'Burg, and we'll let you know what's going on in the 'Dam. We'll get things together eventually and have multiple municipalities that work together to reduce costs, and therefore taxes.
