Kosiur said he agrees there “needs to be statewide legislation in place to prevent” sex offenders from moving to areas without residency restrictions, something he would push for if elected.
If by his statement, Kosiur means that he will, if elected, work to implement at the state level the same or similar legislation to that which he sponsored and forced through the Schenectady County Legislature, the result will be that the thousands of convicted sex offenders who currently reside in the cities will be forced to relocate to the rural areas of New York State. Amedore has promised to work for changes to the existing state laws that will increase the sentences of these criminals and, upon release, require registration of their residences and monitor and track their activities. Playing the shell game with convicted sex offenders, as Kosiur proposes, will only burden the municipalities that do not have the resources to address the problem. It will endanger the families and the children of rural communities. |
