John Mertz is the best town board member!!! He's not a home grown and owes no one nothing. Unconventional for this town. But what a great concept! HE'S THE BEST!!

Filing a STAR application I would assume to be a fairly routine day to day task at the Assessors office. I didn't think it was one of the more complex things that the Assessor was faced with. Maybe I'm asking too much out of the Assessor.
Rephrase that ... asking too much of MACEJKA - and his staff that had the obligation/duty to file it.

Maybe it was the job of his clerks. I really think you need to look at the big picture Cicero. Did the office resolve your problem??? Were you left off the STAR for that year you had a problem?? Maybe you were having a bad day and didn't realize you had an atitude with an overworked and under staffed office. No reason to put a gentleman with a family on the street is it??

John Mertz has been a dismal disappointment. I think you should continue to point out he is not home grown. That works in Rotterdam. How many tax bills has John Mertz paid during his tenure on the board. He mooched off his in-laws for years, pressured town department heads to hire less than qualified employees and tried to usurp the Police Chiefs authoriity, and wanted a badge as the Police Commission Chairman. Mertz also had such an impressive run against Tonko and he ran Maceajka out of office. I'd say that is more than enough reason to put him back in office. Yea Right! Happy Trails Mertz your toast!

I happen to be in a management position in the private sector. If I were to tell my boss that one of my subordinates didn't perform their job which cost the company an account and I didn't correct that subordinate. Whether it be by coaching them up or if that doesn't work ultimately replacing them. My boss would replace me with someone who will make those tough decision to get the job done.
I'm under that type of pressure to perform, so should the town employees.
Well Cicero the Town of Rotterdam residents are not accounts. Rotterdam employees do their best to be exceptional public servants. Mr. Macejka is a trained professional who obviously enforced the rules that he swore to uphold to the best of his ability. The man was a prominent fixture in town hall following the distinguished career of his Dad. You might want to check your obviously big ego at the door the next time you visit Town Hall. These are under paid human beings just trying to survive the daily grind of waiting on people of your ilk. Get a frickin life!!!
OK, so here's how I look at this. Looking at it as a 3-party system, because that's what we really have. There's either Democrats, Republicans or other. (That being people who don't normally swing to one side or the other, the TRUE fence-sitters.) Most people know that certain people signing up to specific parties generally follow guidelines for what party they would follow on a national level.
So, here's how I broke these numbers down. Under the Democrats, I included the following parties (major and minor) Democrat Working Families Green Liberal
Under Republicans, Republican Conservatives Right to Life
Other: Independent Blank Other
Looking at this breakdown in the 3-party breakdown as I have described, here's how these numbers actually come down.
Each of these will be inclusive of all the parties listed in the categories above: Democrats: 7,109 Republicans: 6,024 Other: 4,871 Total registered voters: 18,004
Those prominent town hall fixtures are crumbling. Getting by on your family name is history. Performance counts. You're right, the Rotterdam residents aren't accounts they are customers. The towns survival relies on happy customers. Why you ask??? Because if the customers aren't happy, you start seeing for For Sale signs on peoples front yards, and they move to more efficiently run towns like Guilderland. Now that house that was assessed at 200K is selling for 180K. Next thing you know we'll be paying 10% of our houses value in school and property taxes like the City of Schenectady. We are the 8th highest taxed county in the nation and I'm demonized for asking for a little return on my investment.
