A home builder, George Amedore has seen firsthand how high property taxes keep families from realizing the American Dream of owning a home. He will fight to reduce property taxes by guaranteeing homeowners an annual property tax rebate check and capping local property tax increases to no more than the rate of inflation.
George Amedore believes that New York families are already overtaxed and he will oppose ALL new increases in sales, income or property taxes.
George Amedore believes the state’s gas tax should be reduced to match the tax on gas in our neighboring states – a move that would save drivers 13 cents per gallon.
SPENDING RESTRAINT
George Amedore believes state government spending should never grow faster than a family’s ability to pay for it. He promises to vote against any state budget which increases spending by more than the rate of inflation.
CREATING JOBS
George Amedore has a plan to create new local jobs by tearing down abandoned and unusable factories in Amsterdam and Schenectady, cleaning up the brownfields, and personally recruiting new employers, especially those in hi-tech, manufacturing and ethanol production, to the cleaned-up sites.
George Amedore will fight for state funding to build an ethanol facility to create hundreds of jobs, build the farming economy and reduce our reliance on foreign oil.
The only thing I see here that I don't really agree with is the ethanol. I understand the idea of trying to reduce the amount of oil that we have to get from foreign governments, but I don't really see how this will be done with ehtanol. Anyway, you do realize that although it may drive down the price of gasoline if this was to ramp up, it's just going to increase the amount that you are paying for many other things, i.e. beef, dairy, etc. Remember that much of the corn that is grown now is used for feed for animals. If they don't have anything to eat, I guess we just don't have to worry about having that anymore. There's got to be a better way than ethanol. Also, if there's room taken up in the fields for all the corn that's going to be needed for the ethanol production, what happens to the food that would have originally been grown in the same spot that we would have eaten??
And the rumor is it puts more waste out to make a gallon of ethanol than it does to make a gallon of gasoline, so how are you saving the planet? By taking the food off these plants and killing them so you can spew it into the air? I would think you'd want the plants living as long as possible!
I hope Mr. Amedore is one of those 'irons in the fire' that Mr. Tommasone was referring too.......
I gotta tell ya though,,,,I dont want a property tax 'rebate' check,,,,just give me the value......sewers, sidewalks, lighting etc.......because someday in the future that little 'rebate check' wont be worth much.......

Senders you have a good idea let's just send our tax rebate check to the town of Rotterdam so that they'll have some money to repair and install some infrastructure like sewers.
There are certain car dealers that will not warrenty their cars IF ethanol is used in the gas. So I'd have to say this will effect the auto industry also. And we all know that America's auto industry is in trouble. But not to worry, we will be selling China's cars here soon!
Witht the use of corn for ethanol, perhaps the government will subsidize the farming industry, once again, to grow more corn. Perhaps American will become just one big farming country with illegal's farming the land. That is the way it was in the 20's and 30's. Except they were legals. I guess we do go full circle, huh?

The one I got was an actual mailer. It said pretty much the same thing but was set in a different format. It actually was the size of what aa department store flier would look like. Same size. I noticed the writing on yours. So it appears that he came right to your door and left it there. I think that yours was more of a door to door campaign flier. Mine was addressed and addressed to my house.
It was not impressive.....is what is impressive to me.......just a regular 'Joe',,,,,there are signs in the city too.........if all else fails.....teach the kids not to vote........just buy someone off.......this is America(or NYS).........now move somewhere else.........

ROTTERDAM -- In a bid to convince voters in the 105th Assembly District that he has what it takes to succeed Paul Tonko, political newcomer and local home builder George Amedore returned to the first residence he built to unveil his three-point property tax reform plan.
Amedore, R-Rotterdam, is capitalizing on the fame his construction firm gained for its role in building a Colonie home for the ABC television hit "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition."
Amedore, who is vice president of Amedore Homes, and Democrat Ed Kosiur, a Schenectady County legislator who has championed legislation to restrict the movement of convicted sex offenders, are in a race to fill the seat vacated by Tonko. Tonko left office late last month to take over as president of the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority, ending more than two decades in the Assembly.
Campaigning with the core theme that the "American Dream" of owning a home is being turned into a nightmare because of high property taxes, the 38-year-old Amedore said that his political inexperience isn't a liability, citing his experience with running a business and creating jobs.
"Families who plan their budgets and seniors who live on fixed incomes deserve relief and stable tax rates," Amedore said. "What they don't deserve is excuses from politicians as to why they can't have it."
The Republican candidate's three-point property tax reform plan includes a cap on property taxes, the elimination of unfunded state mandates and the return of Medicaid fraud recoveries to homeowners in the form of rebate checks.
Gov. Eliot Spitzer's office has said a special election will be held July 31 for the right to represent the district, which encompasses all of Montgomery County as well as Schenectady, Rotterdam, Duanesburg and Princetown in Schenectady County.
Both Amedore, who lives in Rotterdam, and Kosiur, who resides in Schenectady, announced last month that they intended to run for the seat. Amedore was recruited to the race by Assembly Minority Leader James Tedisco, R-Schenectady, who has put the weight of the Republican Party behind him.
Kosiur's announcement came last month on the steps of Schenectady City Hall. Flanked by Tonko and Schenectady Mayor Brian U. Stratton, Kosiur said he wants to continue the fight against sex offenders as an assemblyman by pushing for a statewide residency law.
"Through economic development, we've (the Legislature) brought in over $200 million in private investment and created 200 jobs, placing 32 new commercial properties back on the tax rolls," said Kosiur, 51. "I want to continue down that road as assemblyman and in addition, continue with the government cooperation of shared services, allowing counties to work smarter and more efficiently to save taxpayers money." First let me say that 'yes' I will vote for George Amedore. However, although he speaks of cutting taxes, I find that subject familiar. Unless he can single handedly accomplish that...I would be less than hopeful about this. The fact is...is that NYS politicians SPEND, SPEND, SPEND! That is why most are fleeing this state. We are truly taxed to death!
They come up with some new program and BAM!!!...stick it to the taxpayers!
So unless Mr. Amedore, can sway this democratic state to NOT SPEND, to benefit its alaready overtaxed residents, his ploy will be a hard sell. But I admire his vision, that so many before have shared.

The only way to show our politicians our displeasure with our high taxes is to vote them out of office and every other politician who raises our taxes until they get the message that we've had enough of the tax and spend mentality.
Well, I agree. We need some turnover. We see that we have this opportunity right now. Let's find the candidate that best suits that idea for us. Just look who's backing Kosiur. That's enough to make me want to vote for Amedore, even before the junk that Kosiur's so proud of doing at the county level. One thing I must say that it'll at least be a good thing actually having someone from Schenectady County being sent to Albany, hopefully beginning to make a difference. I realize that 1 person can't make the full difference, but let the change start with us. Another person somewhere else then changes, etc, eventually you get the change you're looking for.
As I've just recently completed my economics masters thesis on the ethanol industry I can tell you that your assessment is quite accurate. The biofuel industries are tied to many other domestic industries with far reaching consequences. I'm not sold on ethanol significantly reducing demand for gasoline (especially corn-based ethanol) anytime in the near future however. It will be a long time before we can produce efficient fuel cheaper than the Saudis can...It costs quite a bit to produce ethanol, more than it would cost to simply import gasoline, even at today's high prices. The ethanol industry only exists right now in this country due to billions of dollars in U.S. subsidies, which in turn causes significant deadweight loss to our nation as a whole...(I edited the rest out due to extreme boringness, but you get the idea.) Mr. Amedore is an excellant candidate for the Assembly, and he has my vote, I just hope he consults his "economic advisors" before pitching anything to the rest of the legislature.
