Get election over with

That special Assembly election between Republican George Amedore and Democrat Ed Kosiur will be decided two weeks from today. Not soon enough for me and others I speak with.

Both candidates are appearing on annoying, repetitious TV campaign advertisements. The TV blitzkrieg will be stepped up even more in the stretch run before the vote.

I've received three campaign fliers from Kosiur and two from Amedore. Party workers on both sides say we'll be getting mailed and hand-delivered fliers almost daily until the polls open.

Then there are the eyesore signs both parties often planted illegally on the public right of way.

Also, Hillary Rodham Clinton is doing robo calls for Kosiur and Rudy Giuliani is expected to do likewise for Amedore.

No doubt the final spending figures for both candidates will be obscene.

Dont I get a 'negative' ad in the mail....about what the other candidate didn't do and what they did do.....I think each party should highlight the hell out of their own candidate about what their own candidate did or did not do....let the public decide......Dont advertise to me......you are not selling coke or pepsi.........you have now flinched.....

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

Okay...we're down to the one week stretch before the election....Watch the dems and reps pull out all the stops!!!! Our mailboxes will be overflowing with campaign ads. TV/radio will be full of campaign ads. Our phones will be ringing off the hook with recorded campaign ads and  polls! They are off and running to the finish line!

I didn't have my camera with me today, but I noticed a couple of things.  First of all, the old flower shop down by I-890.

Mr. Amedore's people took it upon themselves to be very creative and take a place a MASSIVE sign over where the message was usually put on the sign.

Mr. Kosiur's people's response?  They got up there and put one of the same lawn signs right on top (not covering, actually above) of the sign that Mr. Amedore worked to get up there.  The one from Amedore seemed to be that they got permission and the one from Kosiur said to me "Well, I don't have any other tricks, so I'll just put my sign higher than yours."

Also, one of the same signs that Mr. Amedore has there is also showing now at 5 Corners, right by the gun shop.

On another note, I did see that all the signs that Amedore had along the Republican Club and at the corner of Princetown and Westcott have been removed...about the same time signs were put at the same intersection for Kosiur.  Coincidence?

And what is this, we have someone in the assembly for 30 years and we get 30 days to replace him?  Sounds nice...I guess.

Everybody start checking with your neighbors now.  If someone needs a ride to get to their polling place, pick them up and swing them by.  How much longer will it really take?

YES, THE PUSH IS ON! Someone told me that they saw a Kosiur sign sticking out of a garbage can on someone's front lawn. HYSTERICAL! People sure can be creative.

The truth here is that we CAN NOT have Kosiur as our representative!! CAN NOT! There will be more government programs and higher taxes than we can shake a stick at. He does not have a clue about the average working man. (as do many other politicians). And above all, let us not forget that the unions endorse Kosiur and we know what that means! The dems are just an extended arm of the unions!!!! So let's get out there and vote and send the message that not only are we tired of higher taxes, not being represented faily, but we are tired of being controlled by these corrupt, rich unions!!!!!!

Neither Assembly choice is special

I am one of the hundreds of people who have enjoyed Paul Tonko’s firstname recognition and support. I congratulate our state administrators who will utilize his wide range of expertise at a great political level!
Replacing him is out of the question, considering either of the candidates running. [County Legislator Ed] Kosiur has city and county experience, but this last sex offenders bill he pushed through has questionable merits, if any. [George] Amedore Jr. can hardly claim building first homes for the middle-class with prices ranging from a quarter to a half-million dollars and condos from $185,000 and up! How really concerned is he for the welfare of seniors to have built “maintenance-free” condos on filled-in wetlands over the secondary aquifer-overlay zone called “Putnam Woods” — even after the major stand of old woods was clear cut?
Mother Nature brought down many of the remaining trees blocking the only entrance, cutting power July 9. The builders and their lawyer all claimed one entrance was all that was needed for residents’ safety when challenged at a hearing.
No matter how much money is spent to buy the spot, it’s a no-win game!

We know what Kosiur has done and we're taking a chance with Amadore. I'm hoping Amadore will do or try to do what he has said he wants to accomplish if he's elected to office. We don't need more of the same from Kosiur.

I will say again that I am voting for Amedore cause I dont want Kosiur. I really don't know what Amedore will do. He may better than any of us anticipated or he could just be the token. In either case, I don't want Mr. Kosiur or anyone from the Schenectady City Council Majority.

If Amedore doesn't do the job that he says he's going to do then the next time he's up for election we'll vote for someone else.

I agree with you on that one shadow. But we really have no choice but to vote him in and give him a chance. Even if Amedore does absolutely nothing (which Tonko did), it is still better than Kosiur in that seat. Kosiur state everything he 'will' do! Amedore makes it clear what he won't do! I like that way of thinking.

The next election for this seat is in November. This November. The advantage is that whoever wins this seat will go in as an incumbent.

I heard earlier that there's supposed to be some sort of debate on Channel 6 during their 11:00 news tonight for anyone who can tune in.

Carl Strock THE VIEW FROM HERE
Kosiur or Amedore: Who cares?

Carl Strock can be reached at 395-3085 or by e-mail at carlstrock@dailygazette.com.

You’re probably dying to know who I support in the race between Ed Kosiur and George Amedore Jr. for the Assembly seat recently vacated by Paul Tonko.
Or maybe you’re not dying to know, which would be OK too, because true to my record on electoral matters, I don’t support anyone. Especially I don’t support anyone in a race as meaningless as this one.
It makes very little difference to anyone but the candidates themselves who wins that seat. The Democrats control the Assembly by an overwhelming margin anyway — 108 to 41, I believe — so one seat more or less won’t matter, as far as control goes.
As for who might better represent the 105th district, which consists of Montgomery County and half of Schenectady County, the record of Republicans and Democrats alike is to sell the people they represent down the river whenever any special interest group calls on them to do so.
They vote to bar non-union workers from public construction jobs; they vote to give automatic raises to teachers when school boards engage in “bad-faith” bargaining; they vote to prevent Schenectady from disciplining its police officers. They vote for things that are certain to raise our property taxes and cause us trouble at the same time they decry those taxes and those troubles.
Then they make a big to-do about giving us an alleged rebate on our property taxes, which is a sham because they don’t have access to our property taxes —those are controlled by our local governments and school boards. What they actually give us is a small refund on our state taxes, while doing nothing to limit the spending that forces property taxes to rise. If anything, the phony rebates encourage school boards, especially, to spend even more, since they can cite the rebates as an offset.
And of course the freezing of non-union contractors out of construction jobs limits competition and pretty well assures the next time your school district wants to build a new gymnasium it will cost more than it would cost otherwise and thus force your taxes up.
So if you ask me if I prefer Kosiur or Amedore, I say all that counts in the system that has evolved in the state Legislature is who can get his hands on more of the money that is apportioned to individual legislators for special projects in his district — so-called member items. That’s what those guys do that really matters: They bring home some bacon, which was of course our bacon to begin with, and in exchange they get those little projects named for themselves: the Jim Tedisco Fitness Trail, the Joseph L. Bruno Stadium, to their greater glory.
The qualifications of these particular two contenders? Amedore built a house for a popular television show. Kosiur sponsored a law in the Schenectady County Legislature to force registered sex offenders to move out of their homes.
That the race is important to state Republicans and state Democrats is evident from the amount of money and effort they are putting into it — Amedore and Kosiur are almost surrogates at this point — but that has more to do with prestige at the state level than with any practical effects on the people of Schenectady or Amsterdam.
