I have spent a considerable amount of time reading the positions on the issues of the candidates for the Office of the President of the United States. At the point that conservative Republican Duncan Hunter withdrew from the Republican race for the nomination, I found no major party candidate who champions my positions on the issues. This year the major parties are offering candidates (Obama and McCain) who share a common position on many of the important issues (including immigration) that face our great country. Obama appears to embrace the principles of socialism. McCain is at best a liberal Republican.
At one point, I supported Bob Barr who is running on the Libertarian line. He and his party are fiscally conservative and espouse a smaller and less intrusive government. The Libertarian party's platform on many social issues, however, differs substantially from my own.
I have recently researched the Constitution Party's candidate for President Chuck Baldwin and the party's ideology and platform. Though Baldwin is a minor party candidate and is polling only in the low single digits, I believe that it is important that the voting public begin to support the emergence of a third party that best represents the values and beliefs of the Americans.
I thoroughly agree with you Brad - but I will make one closing point:
This is not the year to be "throwing away your vote" and voting for the 3rd party candidates who stand 0% likelyhood of winning. This year, the race is socialism-v-democracy - we CANT let Socialism win. We've worked for more than 200 years to gain our independence and freedom in this country - we can't let it slip away because we believe in the principles of one party versus another - WHEN that party CANT win. Vote now to save your freedom - and that of your children, and during the next 4 years work with that 3rd party to build them up to a point where they may actually stand a CHANCE of winning in 4-8-12 years.
I can't even imagine what living under the totalitarian like structure that Hugo Chavez and Putin have ... I enjoy my freedom too much to toss out my vote on someone who CANT win this year.
I have considered your point. However, McCain is reportedly 20+% down in the Presidential polls in NYS. As such, I don't view my vote for Chuck Baldwin, if I decide to support him, as being wasted. If more people supported him, perhaps the Republican party would get the message that they need to run candidates who are more conservative and who will protect our country's sovereignty.
Sorry, I just don't agree with you on that one. And I'm thankful I can STILL disagree, publicly
Maybe he's 20% down because others think like that too? He (Baldwin) still has no chance of winning nationally.
The only message that needs to be sent this year is a stand for our freedoms, not an ideology that, while may be superior, hasn't garnered enough momentum to actually succeed. Yet.
Much like Brad, I am also looking to vote for a 3rd party candidate. Being a member of a 3rd party, I found myself voting Republican 90% of the time, and my vote has never felt so assumed by Republicans, as it does this year. And I'm talking on the national, state and local levels.
I ask you Mobil, during this torturous 2 year presidential campaign, when did McCain or Obama hold a rally in New York? I would have to guess ZERO for McCain, and maybe once or twice for Obama. I might just write-in Bugs Bunny, since it won't affect the outcome, New York's electoral votes have already been pre-determined by both parties to go Democrat.
My vote this year is going to be a protest vote against the Republican Party, in hope to bring the party back to the days of fiscal and social conservatism, and smaller government. Values that I more closely identify with. I am not a party conformist, voting for a party or candidate just because it is the lesser of two evils. Both candidates are big government socialist, both parties are heading in that same direction. One just faster than the other. If we haven't learned our lesson with G.W. Bush, then we deserve what we get. Another wolf in sheep's clothing, or liberal in a Republicans empty suit.
Our present system makes it virtually impossible for a third party to emerge victoriously. I also believe that this is not the year to 'make a point'. Cause nobody really cares. For example...where were these other presidential candidates during the debates? I'd assume they were not invited. Where was the out cry from their supporters? If there was any out cry, the media was clearly not going to report it.
Listen...this is the system we have to work with for THIS YEAR! Let everyone who wants to see a third party emerge from this political mess victoriously, start right after this election. Form groups, campaign, form a PAC, collect money, sign on voters for support, build momentum . Build the base BEFORE this media frenzy starts all over again in 3 years.
But this is NOT the year nor the time. The message will NOT be heard or even acknowledged. IMHO

It appears as though the option to support the Constitution Party's candidate for President Chuck Baldwin does not exist for New York State residents. I reviewed the ballot for the Town of Duanesburg and do not find Baldwin's name amongst the Presidential candidates. My choice now is limited to either McCain/Palin (Republican) or Barr/Root (Libertarian).
