You are just too clever BK! I've been racking my pea brain and couldn't come up with anything that clever!
By the way...I guess we all just took over the Rotterdam code enforcer's job, huh?

The unbanked?

Just a few feet from Walmart is Trustco, Pioneer, and Bank of America.  Not far down the road is another Trustco and a Citizen's Bank, hop over to Hamburg St and there's First National of Scotia and what the heck is the one at Curry and Hamburg?.  Plus Hannaford and Price Chopper do the check cashing, utility and child support payments, Western Union, money orders. Right in Hamilton Hill is the State employees credit union, now available to anyone.  Ample banks in the city and surrounding towns.  Not to mention Regina's and they do check cashing at the beverage place on Kelton as well.

And Walmart thinks there are "underserved" people?  The only people underserved are the customers who go there and can't find a store associate when one needs assistance

You are correct..so what does that tell you about the  people who live in the towns?
How can you expect towns people to know how to even 'want' to take care of their own property when for decades the town's government wasn't even taking care of itself. Bad habits die hard...and Rotterdam is a prime example of that! Think back...and I don't know how far back you go...but when was the last time you saw any major updates in this town? And Walmart and Rotterdam Sq. Mall don't count.

While Altamont Ave was being 'updated..so to say', Capital Plaza was falling apart along with the old curry rd plaza (thank you golub's >) And look at the building at the 4 corners...the roof eaves are falling and is desperate need of a paint job. And of course the old grand union on Hamburg St. So that's what I'm talking about...Rotterdam is still developing with walgreens and rite aid and these MFH..but the old sh** is still old sh**! And the new stuff just aint gonna make sh** shine!

OK, I took a while, trying to think this one up, and I think it's just too far out there, but was pretty good.

Does the word stagnate describe the town of Rotterdam? Bumble is right there hasn't been an upgrade done in Rotterdam in the last 5 administrations that I know of. The only thing that I've seen done in Rotterdam recently is the roads finally being resurfaced and eliminating the wash board roads that we've been driving on for years.

Well...along with nothing ever being done to update this town...I also am pleased that 'at least' the roads were done. And at least there is talk of replacing the water town in the jct.. I would like to see the budgets for the past 5 administrations and see how the money was spent. I am lead to believe that there hasn't been the best management of our taxpayers dollars in this town. I mean think about it....in all of these years...with all of our tax dollars...what did they do with the money?

We already know that the cops take a huge chunk out of our budget with all of their so called overtime/benefits. I'm sure there were other perks and mismanagement. I don't think this administration was left with a whole lot to work with. That is why I still say...cut spending!

Wow, I guess Walmart was quite embarrassed by the negative publicity.  They were out putting some mulch in front there yesterday.  However, the guys looked like they were only about 15 or 16

Oh, I cant' speak for the back that faces the long time hardworking residents who should not be forced to see all this unsighliness and for whom Walmart has dramatically reduced their property values by providing such decrepit scenery

I'll bet if we were to look at the budget for the last 5 administrations we'd find most of it spent on salaries, pension benefits, overtime, new equiptment, and nothing on infrastructure. The only thing that gets fixed is when  something breaks down and they have to fix it.

EXACTLY, shadow.

Rotterdam can't continue to 'look for money' to put fires out. It just is not working. There needs to be a revamping of the budget and it needs to be 'sound and solid'.

I will just bet that the budgets of the past just had this huge 'general fund' that went to 'whatever' or 'whoever'. No planning, vision or foresight.

I have brought up the fact that the town needs to allocate money for projects that need to be done in this town and the town board won't hear of it. The town board isn't going to do anything that's going to raise taxes 1 dollar so you know how much is going to be done in Rotterdam as far as improvement goes.
