Great letter. But go further. We have a glorious Mayor who only cares about sidewalks and curbs. And of course "pocket parks" that take taxpaying businesses out and keep the stuna Latham living assessor in.

     Get rid of Metrograft that has taken $100 MILLION out of the County sheeples pockets. For what? To open a beanery Downtown and prop up Proctor's which would close without constant taxpayer infusions. Signs are the only thing keeping many businesses open in this Socialist Paradise. Working class out-welfare class in. Just keep re-electing the same morons. And yes, after a City School Bored sweep Salami is working on another hot one.

I give the Hamburg St business owners a ton of credit. They are all independently owned. And they work hard and put a lot of time and THEIR money into it. Sure there are some that could use some sprucing up, but that is clearly not the majority.

But look around Rotterdam. There is building after building that is vacant and/or falling apart. Besides the well know beast on Curry Rd (the old shopping plaza) there is capital plaza, the cvs owned building at 4 corners, the old grand union on hamburg, the old edgewood restaurant/chinese buffet, the old country inn, crounse's old farm at I88 which is presently owned by flying J's, the old draper school, the edkerts on guilderland ave  and the list goes on.

Quick we need to raise taxes to attract new businesses. What business in their right mind would move into this county with the high taxes that they pay and the next to nothing benefits they get for paying them?

     These Metrograft "planners" should finish one thing, like the Big Hose, like Lower State St, like St James Plaza before they stick their beeks into Hamburg Street. Facades and new curbings does not mean more business. Smart business people should say NO! to Metrograft meddling. I am still waiting for the first customer to say; "I stopped here because of the beautiful new curbing!"

Rotterdam should should stay just like it is- even let some trees grow over the abandoned buildings and restore it to its original state-
A collection of horse and buggy trails that  that wander about - that  never got engineered properly-.

Now there is some bizarre effort to try and make the cars go straight- sort of

I dont know if metrograft is the answer in and of itself....but, 'the gangs' of old are moving out and leaving/left what we now have........and like the
locust our youth will move out......Rotterdam shouldn't look like it does....especially from the $$ back in GE's hay-day.....I wonder where the
sewers were back then???....where did all the $$ go????,,,the stories from the lips of our elders from 'back in the day' could shed alot of light....

Someone needs to approach the Hamburg Street merchants about putting it on. they have a good organization from what I understand.

Officials aiming to halt unsafe parking lot detours

    Dorothy Bouck jokes about buying a spike strip to deter impatient motorists from using the Super 8 Motel’s parking lot to avoid the bustling Curry and Carman roads intersection.
    In her two years on the job, the lodge’s general manager has watched vehicles speed through the lot, sometimes narrowly missing guests. The problem became prevalent enough that a maintenance worker once decided to block off one of the entrances in a vain attempt to thwart cut-through attempts.
    “So they cut across the grass instead and gave him the fi nger as they drove by,” she recalled Thursday.
    Both Bouck and state officials are hoping the roundabout project under way at the intersection will help improve safety. But until the traffic calming device is complete, conditions at the intersection are likely to get worse before they get better.
    Contractors working with the state Department of Transportation are scheduled to close the intersection at 7 p.m. today, and it may remain blocked until shortly before the morning commute on Tuesday. The weekend closure is the first of two scheduled before the single-lane roundabout opens sometime by the end of July.
    Detours on Interstate 890 and the roads approaching the construction area will direct motorists away from the construction area onto a maze of streets through Rotterdam. Bouck isn’t convinced that drivers will heed the detours instead of using the motel shortcut, and neither are the Rotterdam police.
    Police patrols have had periodic traffic stings at the Super 8 since the roundabout construction began this spring and will continue through the duration of the $1.6 million project. The goal is to prevent motorists from taking unsafe detours though Super 8’s parking lot, explained Lt. Jason Murphy.

I like the roundabout. I think traffic flows better. It is a tiny one though. Has anyone seen a tractor trailer go through it yet? Now that's a site.

I have and it seems as though they did fine.  Not even many of the tires going on the inner divider.  Obviously they take it a bit slower than other cars.

They do get through without much hassle don't they.  

The one thing that drivers need to do more of in the roundabout is to use the directional signal.  In order for the traffic to flow smoothly, use your signals.  Don't make people guess where you are going.  I saw a line of 3 come through that came down Curry and all went Rt onto Hamburg towards the Thruway.  Drivers waiting on by Mobil had to wait longer to see where the others were going.  Also, slow down in the roundabout.  Saw some "kid" blow through without even touching the brake pedal.
