Gas station plan out, car wash in

   Though two aging houses off Burdeck Street were recently demolished and the land has been cleared, plans for a gas station on the site have been scrapped.
   BJ’s Wholesale Club and businessman Randy Brenner had originally proposed a 10-pump gas station with a three-bay car wash for the 1.34-acre lot near the Campbell Road intersection, about a quartermile away from the company’s discount store. The project was to go before the Town Board last year for review, due to its size and proximity to the Great Flats Aquifer.
   But the issue never came to a vote and the property was eventually sold, Town Planner Peter Comenzo said. The land, in addition to an adjacent 0.82-acre lot, was purchased by Josepha Longo, who is apparently reworking the projected use.
   “They’re coming up with a plan to redevelop that corner,” Comenzo said. “So far, the only thing on the radar is a car wash.”
   The single-family residences at 500 and 508 Burdeck St. were cleared earlier this month to make way for the car wash, which is approved for the corner lot at Burdeck Street and Campbell Road. Plans to construct a Dunkin’ Donuts — another proposal once floated for the property near the car wash site — have since moved to a property off West Campbell Road near Rotterdam Square Mall.
   Plans for the Dunkin’ Donuts are expected to be pitched at today’s town Planning Commission meeting for the property where Flying W Caps Inc. is now located. Paul Camelo, the owner of Dunkin’ Donuts shops at the Five Corners and Broadway in Schenectady, proposes to build another eatery on the 0.85-acre property.
   Planning Commission members are also slated to hear conceptual plans for an 8,700-square-foot restaurant and banquet facility on three acres of land where the former Main Florist once stood. Owner Frank Popolizio is also planning to build a 3,000-square-foot retail building there.
   Comenzo said both projects are still in their infancy and require a number of town approvals due to their location near the aquifer.
   “They’re both concepts at this point,” he said.
