Gee, what about FAMILY taking care of the older folks? Now that would be a concept, huh?

Not anymore....cant afford the house,groceries, phone, cable, etc,,, and watching/caring for the old folks and watching/caring for the grandkids.......

extended family ties have been severed by 'terrorists'.....

My wife and I took care of 5 of the grandkids for 7 years until they went to school full time. Now we're taking care of my Mom who took a fall and will be with us until she gets back on her feet. It does add a lot of expense for food and stops to the drug store for her needs but it has to be done. Family should take care of family.

Good for you shadow. This honorable behavior, I believe is generational. I don't see todays young adults reciprecating. Different world. Different needs. Differnent wants. Different idiology. Different society.

I'm getting a little nervous about what's going to happen to me and the wife if we ever need care when we get hurt, sick and old. Our kids already said don't call them and I hope they were kidding. my parents taught me to do this as they took care of members of their family when they got sick.

I know some young adults who have moved away from their parents. Their exact words were: 'If I stay around here, I'll have to take care of them when they are old like they took care of my grandparents. I'm not doing that'.

So it'll probably be assisted living and nursing homes for us!!!!

The generation below us doesn't want to waste their time caring for their elderly parents, they just want to retire and go have fun. We have a relative who did just what you described, she moved far enough away so she wouldn't have to care for her ailing mother and my wife got stuck with all the care and all the work and all she got from her siblings was you did a good job. How many people can really afford nursing homes or assisted living facilities at the rates they charge?

I was talking with some hispanic and african-americans and they said what a culture shock with the elderly here.....and most of the workers in the health care system for the elderly/debilitated/physically handicapped, are these such folks....
......'white american' is the minority of the workers but, the majority of the clients......

everybody wants to be a manager but no one wants to be the laborer......

..the rubber meets the road when you are naked in front of a stranger and have crapped yourself....

I just received an email from WINMORRISON REALTY confirming the sale of Mr. Crounse's farm and Mr. Collier's house to the Flying J Company. (located at the I88 entrance)

They go on to state that there are several development companies considering the remaining large parcels of property that boarders the thruway.

Although this sounds very promising for the development of the area, there are a line of homes that may be sandwiched between Duanesburg Road in the front, and major development in the back. Our home is one of them. So for now my husband and I will have to sit tight and wait.

Well, I hope things go well over in your neighborhood, Joann.  Hate to see them push you right out of town.

Where else is there left to go in this town? Oh yea...the MFH! Perhaps the one by the sewage plant.

Officials cool to truck stop talk Crounse farm property sold to developer

   For years, Earl Crounse’s barn just west of the Schalmont campus served as a reminder of agriculture’s fading presence in the town. Like Crounse’s two-story 19th century brick home nearby, the barn has seen better days. The remaining 24 acres are hemmed in by the Thruway and Interstate 88.
   Last week, Crounse sold the Route 7 property to a commercial developer. The sale worries town officials.
   “It’s a class-A buyer who plans on making improvements to the area and also employ some people,” said Win Morrison, a commercial Realtor based in Kingston, who worked out the deal.
   Morrison declined to name the buyer, but said it was transferred to a “very community- and business-oriented” operation. He said the property was sold for more than $3 million.
   The sale came around the same time comments appeared on an Internet forum — rotterdamny. info — and in comments from officials about Flying J Inc., a Utahbased company that specializes in developing truck stops. Company officials confirmed there is a project in the works for Schenectady County that will be announced shortly, but didn’t provide further details Thursday.
   Flying J operates 220 travel plazas and fuel stops in 41 states and six Canadian provinces, with another 30 now under construction or in planning. The only other Flying J location in New York is off the Thruway near Buffalo, according to the company.
   Town officials were unaware of any plan to develop the property and expressed worry at the prospect of another truck stop near the I-88 and I-90 intersection. Citgo already operates a plaza on the west side of the intersection.
   Rotterdam Planning Board Chairman Lawrence DiLallo was skeptical of such a plan ever winning approval. He said property is zoned for agriculture and would need to be approved for other uses by the Town Board before it can be developed commercially.
   “It’s something the Town Board wouldn’t be interested in,” he said.
   Supervisor Steve Tommasone said he doubted plans for a truck stop would ever take root on Crounse’s farm, but said he’d remain “open minded about any project in the works.” He said town officials had originally tried to zone the land for corporate commerce, which would allow large business offices.
   “We have a vision for that area and I don’t know if this type of development meets this vision,” he said.
   The sale of the property coincides with heightened talk about a sewer line extending from the town’s treatment plant off Campbell Road to the Princetown border. Tommasone said attorneys representing a group of private investors is reviewing a contract to create the line.
   Morrison said the area around Exit 25A is poised for development. He said the plans for the former Crounse farm are just the beginning.
   “It’s probably the hottest location on the Thruway right now,” he said.
   Schenectady County Historian Don Rittner said the home was built in 1854 and remained in the Crounse family for more than a century. The farm was among dozens affected when I-88 was connected to the Thruway in the early 1980s.
   Rittner said the property was submitted to the state Office of Historic Preservation in 1981, but doesn’t appear to be listed on the registry. He hopes to have a chance to document the structure if it is slated for demolition.
   “It would be a shame to see that house torn down because it’s so old,” he said, “It’s another loss of Rotterdam’s history.”

That's what informed people do, they discuss the developments in the town they live in. I think it's funny that the town doesn't like the thought of a big gas station being built there but allowed MFRH to be built next door to the sewage treatment plant and let 250 homes and condos to be built in the swamp[Helderberg Meadows].
