Petta's Restaurant in Schenectady to become church
By Marv Cermak Updated 10:11 am, Monday, April 18, 2016

SCHENECTADY - Petta's Restaurant, one of the region's oldest dining spots, apparently will be converted to a church.
Michael Petta said he and the Rev. Donald Moore had reached agreement on a $180,000 sale price for the Hamilton Hill property. Moore is pastor of the Living Word Chapel at West Hurley.
"The lawyers have to complete the necessary paper work before the transaction is finalized hopefully by the end of the month," Petta said. He said the restaurant would remain open until the property officially changed hands.

Petta, 63, spent most of the winter in Florida. He has devoted most of his life to working at the 65-year-old family business. Besides the restaurant, he is well-known as a former member of the Schenectady City Council and County Legislature.

"Obviously closing the place is very emotional. But the young people want to go to all the new downtown restaurants so it has been tough to compete," Petta said.
"Besides losing younger clientele, between 15 to 20 of our older regular diners died last year. One of them came to dinner three nights a week. As of late, we have been losing money."
Petta said Moore was impressed with the living quarters above the restaurant and the adjacent 150-vehicle parking lot. He said Moore plans to have an "outreach" program serving Schenectady area residents.
Moore did not return calls seeking information about his plans for Schenectady.
