This is true. I only go to an actual bank building once or twice a year at this point.

I like the staffs at the the banks that I do business at and prefer to walk inside a real bank to visit and do business.  It is much more fun to do business face-to-face with real people than with machines and apps.

The tellers at the bank were the ones who kept telling me I should just use the app. I don't think they wanted to deal with the long lines on Saturdays. I was a bit surprised since they were essentially promoting the elimination of their jobs. (This was from the SEFCU in Niskayuna, the one on Albany St always had very friendly tellers who I liked to chat with and didn't act like my being there was an annoyance)

The only fast-food chain that we really need is Arby's.  Their beef and cheddar sandwiches are worth walking a mile for.

Still not as good as the ORIGINAL Nebas... the crap MR Subb is trying to market as a Neba today is an insult

It is a FACT that drive thru is NOT essential, it is merely a convenience for the lazy.  Would you die if you actually had to get off your butt and walk into a fast food place?

I would like to see your "DUNKIN' DONUTS" data to support this "NOT essential", or is it just another opinion of yours that you claim to be fact?

Neba-Mike's Subs were the best.  No one since has made a sub as good as Mike's -- I insist that it has to do with the sub roll -- don't know where they got the rolls from but they were without a doubt the best.
Apparently, the Mr.Subb franchises in our area are a descendant of the Neba-Mike's Subs (see the article below from 2009).  If so, they should never have changed the winning formula.

Mr. B's Bes
t in Queensbury is similar to the Neba-Mike's Sub model  - it used to be very good .. then got tired and mediocre ... however, it is still in business and some folks still swear by it.  I'll have to check it out the next time I am up that way.

My best memories were of the Neba-Mike's Sub on Route 9 in Latham.  It was pretty close to the Siena campus so it was always busy.  Where were the other locations?  I can't seem to remember the other locations.

What we really need -- and it doesn't have to be a national chain -- it could be a local start-up even -- but we need a place where folks will actually come and socialize .. not just whip through a drive-thru.  There is a Dairy Queen in the Poconos that has an "old car night" every week during the summer.  There are other theme nights, too.

Welcome back, Neba
By Cathy Woodruff - Times Union -  on January 7, 2009 at 1:01 PM

Neba, the roast beef sandwich that inspired legions of devoted Capital Region fans decades ago, is back on the menu and already delighting diners, Bill Pompa, owner of the Mr. Subb restaurants announced today.
Pompa says he re-introduced the Neba early in November after testing some new techniques for making the signature sandwich, which features a toasted sesame seed bun and roast beef au jus.
More than 22 years ago, Pompa’s business was known as Neba-Mike’s, and he had six locations in Troy and Watervliet. When he decided to expand farther into Albany County, he changed the name to Mr. Subb to avoid confusion with Mike’s-Neba, which already was operating in the county, according to a news release about the sandwich re-introduction.
Later, Pompa decided to discontinue the Nebas and concentrate on submarine sandwiches because of the name change and other operational considerations.
Now, he says, this Neba is a bigger, better and more consistently prepared sandwich.

For me  it was Mikes Subs oil on the subs that was the key.  Mikes/Nebas was in Woodlawn on State St. by 890 where Gallo florist is now.   Was also a Mikes downtown corner State/Clinton where Hampton Inn is now.   Anyone remember Walts Subs on Altamont Ave.   Was a favorite in the 70's.   Also one at East of Latham Circle onRte.7.  They were just as good, if not better than Mikes.

That makes sense.   The Mike's sub roll had that nice "crunch" of the crust and the just right softness on the inside that didn't get icky when squirted with oil or mayo.  Golden Krust is another great business that has gone away.

I agree with the other poster about the oil -- but the roll makes or breaks the sub.   Most sub places have pretty mediocre sub rolls.  Stewart's sub rolls are awful.  The Brown Bag on Hamburg Street has a great staff, great service, a nice place  and all of the other ingredients are wonderful --- and while they had a great sub roll when they started .. they changed to something else .. and in my book, they dropped the ball with that decision.
