If Governor Andrew Cuomo is indicted in 2016 and goes the way of Silver and Skelos, our new governor would be Kathy Hochul.  Which raises the question: who is she?
We know that she is 57 years old, She has been married to William Hochul, who is the U.S. Attorney for Western NY, for almost 32 years and has 2 children.
She is a Roman Catholic, graduate of Syracuse University and Catholic University, and a lawyer.  She worked on the staff of Senator Moynihan and the State Assembly before being elected to the town board in Hamburg (NY).  She was appointed Deputy County Clerk by the Erie County Clerk and, then, County Clerk by Governor Elliot Spitzer when the incumbent clerk resigned.  She stood up to Spitzer on his plan to give drivers licences to illegal immigrants.  She was elected  County Clerk in 2007 and 2010 - the second time with 80%) of the vote.  Then she was elected to Congress in a special election and then lost her bid for a full 2 year term in that office  before being promoted to the state's second highest office by Andrew Cuomo.
When her successor became County Clerk, he discovered millions of dollars in uncashed checks in boxes in the County Clerk's office and it cost 10's of thousands of dollars to clean up this and the back log of other work in that office.
She did stand with 16 other Democrats to vote a Contempt of Congress resolution against Attorney General Eric Holder involving the "ATF gun walking" scandal.  She did receive an NRA endorsement for her opposing the SAFE Act. She was also opposed to free trade agreements because of their negative impact on U.S. manufacturing jobs.  She also was open to cuts in entitlements due to her concern over our nation's rising debt.
She is pro-choice, pro-obamacare, pro-gay marriage and favors the federal government investing in/incentivising alternative energy over carbon fuels.

I  don't know Mrs. Hochul and am making no judgement about her.  But with the very real possibility that through an act of God or Preet Bharara, she could occupy the highest elected political office in the state.
Of all the people in New York State that Andrew Cuomo could have selected for Lt. Governor - why did he select her?

Cuomo's going to jail... Hillary's going to jail... pipe dreams.

I don't think that the Courtney family (her family) nor the Hochul family (her husband's family) would fit the definition of aristocracy -- so she is not a "blue blood."

I am not sure if you can say that she is a liberal since she opposed the SAFE Act, supported cutting entitlements and opposed granting privileges to illegal immigrants.

Actually - yes - I expected someone with more gravitas --- in regards to his or her resume.   Her predecessor, Bob Duffy, had a strong resume -- bachelors degree in Criminal Justice from RIT, Masters degree in Public Administration from Syracuse University, distinguished law enforcement career, served as chief of police and then mayor of Rochester --- by all accounts someone who was well prepared to move into the highest elected political office in the state.

Oh -- and New York State has produced and continues to produce many very good leaders -- so cut the crap that you don't expect it from our state.

Andrew Cuomo is not a stupid person.  He has shown that he can hire or bring into government some very capable people.    Not judging Mrs. Hocul -- but her resume is thin and her past track record raises some red flags.

The thing that I find most interesting about her being picked as Cuomo's Lt. Governor -- is that her husband is the Federal Prosecutor for the Western District of NY and Peet Bharara is the Federal Prosecutor for the Southern District of New York.  Is this just a coincidence?

Well the Governor did cancel the traditional New Years Day open house at the mansion until Easter.   He stated he wanted to spend that time honoring his Dads passing.   If this means anything in the coincidental scheme of things.

I don't see the connection between Governor Cuomo's choosing Kathy Hochul as his Lt. Governor to his decision to postpone the traditional New Years Day Open House at the Executive Mansion.  It is completely understandable and reasonable that the Cuomo family would want to mark the 1st anniversary of the death of Mario Cuomo at home, together, as family rather than at a public function.

I still am surprised that no one has questioned the fact that Lt. Governor Kathy Hochul's husband is the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of New York.  He has the jurisdiction to investigate and prosecute any criminal conduct related to  the "Buffalo Billion" deal.   The "Buffalo Billion" deal is one of the "transactions" that has connections to figures involved in "transactions" that caught Preet Bharara's attention and brought down Sheldon Silver and Dean Skelos.
Is it just a coincidence that the spouse, Kathy Hochul, of the federal prosecutor, William Hochul, was plucked out of mediocre obscurity and electoral defeat to the 2nd highest office in the state -- just as questions were being raised about the "Buffalo Billion?"
