Cuomo: State police to participate in holiday season crackdown Albany, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that New York State Police will take part in a holiday season anti-DWI program that resulted in the arrests of more than 700 people last year.
The "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign attempts to crack down on drunk driving each year. This season's will last from Dec. 18 to Jan. 1. “State troopers will be out in force this holiday season to crack down on dangerous drivers,” Cuomo (D) said. "New York State has zero tolerance for drunk driving and the preventable tragedies it causes."
Driving under the influence causes one third of all car crashes, the governor's office stated. Last year, 23 people were killed by drunk drivers across the nation on Christmas Day.
