Seems like the mayor is going to cruise to re-election barring a massive swing in the late returns. While I would have voted for Hull, I have to say his campaign was both low energy and oddly focused on Metroplex's success. There are so many issues with Schenectady, to pick Metroplex out as a positive and say you'd run it a bit better as your main talking point appears to have been misguided.

About 65,000 people live in Schenectady, approximately 17,000 are under the age of 18.  That leaves about 48,000 of legal voting age.  How many votes were cast...8000? .  What's that, like 18%?LOL

Personally, I do not think he wanted to run. Or, at the least, I wonder if he would have preferred to support another candidate running against McCarthy?

One party rule is generally not a good thing.  Well, let's see how the voters like their choices in a few years.

Hull had to run for Mayor.  All of the big money folks who control the puppet strings and backed him live outside the city.

they are ALL puppets and controlled by special interest groups...at every level of government.

heard and interesting story a couple days ago....galesi's Pucko said that if hull-ster won....he'd be outta here and not work with him.
that's why he is behind by 8-9 months with the casino....he was waiting until the election.

.............and that folks is how pathetic and corrupt the political machine is.....by BOTH parties!!!

As opposed to fat cats doing business with City Hall that all contributed to the incumbent? These evil "outsiders" are school chums who don't pick up City contracts.
Hull lost because he's too much of a gentleman. This was a winnable race against an unpopular opponent. Not even one contrasting piece comparing education/work history/
experience. The REPS sat home because there was nothing contrasting these candidates. How about cleaning the DEM fossils out of ZBA, Planning and Assessment Review Bored
that everyone hates? That was never mention nor was the Jay St fire investigation and too much more to mention here.

Hull was slammed on TV and with a barrage of smear mailers/robo calls and never answered back. "Nice guys finish last" and in Schenectady the dumbest
candidate always wins. Look at the top vote getter for City Council. In the end John P (who was by far the best DEM council candidate) takes Peggy Kings seat. BFD-
Nothing changes but the taxes and fees go up. The REPS won all over the State/Nation and back in Schenectady County could not pick up any new ground.

Let me sum up what you said (not reprinting all of the boring sh*t you wrote before the line that I quoted):  You think that anyone with a D after their name is evil and anyone with a R after their name is the second coming of the messiah.   That way you don't have to make your brain hurt by actually reading up on and thinking about anything before you vote.

They must have stayed at home, because I'm registered as. Democrat and voted for Hull. I know from speaking to friends that I wasn't the only Democrat not voting McCarthy.

SCHENECTADY — It might have been the tweet seen 'round the Capital Region. At the least, it raised some eyebrows.

Early Wednesday afternoon, a tweet appearing on @McCarthySchdy, the Twitter handle for Mayor Gary McCarthy, read: "So grateful for this #Victory in 2015 and the opportunity for #4MoreYears — Hull has no class. What an embarrassment. #SoreLoser."

It was an obvious reference to McCarthy's election night victory over Roger Hull by a vote of 4,394 to 3,664 for a second four-year term.

It was promptly removed and replaced with a gentler message: "We're very happy with our outcome across the city of Schenectady#Elections 2015. Proud of our record, will keep the progress moving forward!"

The Democratic mayor has publicly said he doesn't author his own tweets. It's not entire clear who does.

He did not return a call to his cell phone Wednesday seeking comment. A reporter read the tweet to Hull who was unaware of it.

"He won the election, he's the mayor, but I stand by everything I said during the campaign," said Hull. "As for the tweet, I have no idea of what he's referring to."

He said the only negative thing that he might have said against McCarthy is that he is a double dipper for collecting both his state pension and mayor's salary. "Am I going to take the high road? It's the only road I know."

Hull said he called McCarthy around 10:30 p.m. to congratulate him, but it went to voicemail on his cellphone.

During the campaign, Hull and McCarthy locked horns on a variety of issues, chiefly crime, home values, property taxes and neighborhood revitalization.

After the victory speech at the Hibernian Hall, where the Democrats gathered, a reporter asked McCarthy Hall if he had anything to say to Hull. The mayor said he had to do a television interview.

When pressed, McCarthy said he would heed his mother's advice that if you don't have anything nice to say about someone, don't say anything.
