Another place for alcoholics to go drink downtown is being announced - this time in that Hotel Foster, you know, Metroplex gave a pair of tax deadbeats money to buy the building AND plex made the taxpayers pay their delinquent tax bill on that building too.  Bet the city never got any of the taxes the pair owed on any other properties in the city either.

So now there will be yet another taxpayer subsidized place to drink alcohol.   And didn't Metroplex say they were going to stop funding gin mills downtown.

There's no downtown, it's drunkentown

Downtowns are a place for families to go, to shop and eat.  Schenectady's downtown doesn't have any place for families.  No stores families to buy things they need.  No place to buy clothes for the whole family, no place to buy household needs, no place to buy hardware, no place to buy music and video stuff, etc.

Downtown is drunkentown,

10 years, where have any department stores opened in the city?

you should know the answer to that..............

these poor struggling taxpayers are too busy working to pay their taxes blah blah blah!!

Hell...they don't even have time to read the newspaper...let alone go shopping!!!

In your own words.....they don't have extra money cause their taxes are too high....right?

And they were referring to what exactly?

It's not even the winter when our incompetent leader would be claiming the road crews are working around the clock, while not declaring a snow emergency.

they were referring to the taxes and the traffic patterns and 'how stuff gets done'

and the schenectady public school rating vs taxes

I challenge the author of this thread to name 1 department store that has opened in the downtown of any city, with a population of 100,000 or less, in the last 10 years?
The other comments about video and music stores seems to suggest what I have thought all alone - that the author of the thread has his/her head stuck/buried someplace.  People can live stream and download videos and music.  Brick and mortar video and music stores are virtually extinct.  ----- Next thing you know, the author of this thread will questioning why no new blacksmith shop or livery has opened in downtown Schenectady.
Now, any reasonable person can take a look around Schenectady almost any day or evening and see MANY people patronizing the businesses that ARE downtown .. that weren't there 10 years ago.  Businesses that are doing well because they are RELEVANT to consumers TODAY ... not to the consumers that no longer exist.

Brooks Brothers.

Greenville SC has a population of about 61k...  And a downtown that was built in less time than ours and is actually thriving like you wouldn't believe.

And of course  because you have not yet grown up to be independent, on your own, and self supporting, and you have your two rich mommies to provide all the necessities of life for them and you, therefore you have not taxes to pay, no mortgage to pay, no National Grid bill to pay, no homeowner insurance to pay, no home repair bills to pay, no home maintenance to pay, no capital costs to pay (yes many of us know that the new house is paid exclusively by your mommies, your name is NOT on the loan/mortgage or deed) no wife or children to feed, no children to clothe, no wife and children to pay for their medical bills, no children to put money away for college.  And because you don't a financial care in the world, you don't understand what it's like to be part of a family living in the city and having to pay the property taxes of Galesi and all the others downtown and then not even get any stores to shop at in return for paying for downtown.  With the typical gross income per household in the city at $40,000, obviously less in net pay, most families are paying 25% of their income in combined county taxes, city taxes, city fees, and school taxes.  They don't have the disposable income for all the gadgetry you say people can use.  And while movies and music and books might work on line, well, clothes and shoes do not, maybe tee shirts, but men's suits need to be tried on before buying, then often altered; you can't imagine women buying a coat and the sleaves are too short when it arrives in the mail, brick and mortar stores are a necessity.  Whether mens, womens, or childrens, two IDENTICAL sizes of an item of clothing will be different between two different stores, in fact, two brands within one store will not necessarily be the same, obviously you have never heard that some manufacturers clothing "runs big" or "runs small."   Even buying things like towels, the shower curtains, etc, normal people don't want to look at a tiny thumbnail image and try to imagine what kind of fabric.  One cannot tell by looking online what bedding material looks like, how heavy it is, etc.  Try buying shoes online, again, different manufacturers the sizes run different.  See, since you have never known the joy of  wife and children, you wouldn't understand how normal people shop.  Sure, order DVD's online or download, no big deal, buy pens and pencils online.  But who wants to order a TV sight unseen?  Normal people are going to go into a brick and mortar store to look at the TV's, see what they look like, compare them.   Crafts, e.g. yarn, fabric, normal knitters and sewers will not buy that stuff online, normal people are fussy about the weights of the yarn, etc.  Who would ever buy a computer chair online, normal people go into a brick and mortar store and sit in various chairs to see what feels comfortable; that's true with mattresses for a bed, and sofas, chairs, etc.
I guess DV would have his mommies buy him a car online without any test drive.  Oh, then he won't know that his gut can't fit

But even if stores are not downtown, tell us DV, where ANYWHERE WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS -- IN EXCHANGING FOR ALL THE TAX MONEY FLUSHED, cam you buy a new car, new furniture, clothes, shoes, crafts, TV's, etc?

Normal adults have needs to make purchases other than mugs and tee-shirts.

These personal attacks are getting ridiculous.  Frankly, I'm getting sick and tired of it.  You personally (hiding behind a username) have ruined a place for discussion and events in this town, and surrounding areas.

No wonder others don't post here. They probably fear you unleashing personal attacks on them, or their families - like you're doing to this ONE other person.  It's a shame that one person, and their obsessions with attacking others personal lives and families, is allowed to continue to bring this public forum to nothing more than a waste of cyber space.

What a sad life you must have if all you can do - all day, every day - is stalk this person and come up with the same, repeated ad infinitum, personal attacks.

agree......it just confirms .... ROTTENdam....A  NICE PLACE TO LIVE.
MC1 is a prime example of the character of nasty personal attack people.
attacking people and their families on such a very personal level is shameful and shouldn't reflect everyone elses character.

those businesses have low paying jobs.....so YES, the owners are 'raking it in' and NO the low wage jobs DO NOT support
the tax base or property investment into the city/county.....

you still can't see the laundromat in front of your eyes can you.......it's a corporate laundering machine via metroplex/IDA
and other entities that 'scoop taxes' and redistribute them through levies/PILOTS

Thought Death Ray promised his first retail at the Foster Building-no? Just what we need for all the winos downtown. Of course the usual in the bag DEMS will praise
this as more evidence of DEM moron "progress". Horrible wine for the mass instead of bread and circuses. Send in the clowns starting with DEM "leaders" Lumpy and Perazoo.
