Who's managing the city for McCarthy? From your first post, someone from county gov't? Gillen? Gardner? Maybe the insider Buicko?

Another point that must be made - half of the people working at the BoE are Republicans and the office is run by 2 Commissioners --- 1 a Democrat and 1 a Republican.  So any blame for what happens at the BoE needs to be split 50/50 with the Republicans.

Is it really too much to expect the Schenectady County Board of Elections to follow state election law? Or is basic competence and knowledge of the rules out of the question? Of course, that’s assuming the board’s failure to send five candidates for office notice of the deadline to decline or accept their party’s nomination is the result of ignorance and incompetence, rather than dirty political tricks. The county Board of Elections would have the ...

Several points -
the acting Republican Commissioner of the BoE is a lawyer .. so the excuse that she is temporary is bogus.
Again - half the BoE staff is Republican -- why didn't they remind Hull?
Hull and one of the city council candidates has run for election before -- and been nominated by a party other their own -- and had to sign the form in question before  ....   so the excuse that Hull didn't know he had to sign the form is bogus.
In response to the question about who manages the City of Schenectady -- Mayor Gary McCarthy does and very well.  He is very intelligent and experienced -- but more importantly:  He is not afraid to build a network of folks (city, county, state, etc) to whom he can seek advice and guidance.  A good leader - like Mayor McCarthy - knows that one can't do it alone.  You need a good team -- and Mayor McCarthy has a great team working with him.

Hull can't seem to manage his own campaign -- ex. failure to sign and submit paperwork to get his name on the Alliance Party line -- yet he thinks he can manage the whole city.  If elected, he will will probably be sitting on his hands waiting for someone from the county government to tell him what to do next.

He doesn't need that line anymore. NEWSFLASH: The reform/REP team swept the CONS line in the City with both Roger Hull and Vince Riggi bumping off DEM hacks that were
endorsed by the committee. Hull will be on the REP/REFORM/Conservative lines in November. BTW, the last line sounds exactly like what McCheese has been doing even
supporting clueless County DEMS over City residents on the sales tax disgrace. Mayor Hull has a nice ring to it.

Newsflash - I already know about the conservative line -- so how come clueless Hull and Riggi are making such a huge stink about the BoE and the Alliance party line ??????????????????????????????????????????????

DVOR - sometimes I think people on this site just pile on negatively in reaction to everything you say.  But, when you post silliness like this it makes it hard to take you seriously.

It remains to be seen if any laws were broken by anyone at the Board of Elections.

Quoted Text
John Conklin, spokesman with the state Board of Elections, said he was incorrect when he told a Daily Gazette reporter on Wednesday that the county board was not required to send notice of the Aug. 21 deadline to accept nomination for an independent nominating body.

The boards are required to send that notice,” Conklin said

But DV still claims there is no such law????       Does DV (who has a little token part time job for a church) know more about election law than an actual employee of New York State Board of Elections?

Also, I don't believe the acting rep commissioner is an attorney, a husband or former husband is an attorney.  What law school did the acting rep commissioner attend?

the BOE is one of the most cushy jobs out there.

none of them...dem or rep....really gives a rats a$$ about anything!!!

they spend more time viewing the social networks on their computers than they do work!!!

but not to worry.....all of the struggling taxpayers will be out in force come election day....and Hull should win by a landslide......yes?

Which part of what I said do you consider silliness?

Is it the part where I said that IF a law has been broken by someone at the BoE that the person(s) should be held accountable and removed from their position?
BTW - it is an absolute lie (made up by the he/she troll) that I ever said or suggested that there was no law.   But that is the he/she troll's m.o. -- lie, deceive and ignore reality.

Is it the part where I said that the BoE is 50% Democrats and 50% Republicans?  The GOP acting commissioner is a lawyer and is familiar with election law-- so Hull, Riggi and company can't just blame the Democrats on the staff -- any one of the Republican members of the staff could have notified them.

Is it the part where I said that Hull should have known the rules and procedures himself or had someone on his team who knew the rules and procedures?   Hull and Riggi ran on the Alliance Party line 4 years ago -- and had to sign the form 4 years ago -- so they do bear a share in the  responsibility for failing to sign the form.

Is it the part where I said that Mayor McCarthy, who is a very intelligent and capable person on his own, is an effective leader because he reaches out to, asks advice from and works with others at the local, county, state and federal level?   McCarthy is a good mayor precisely because he knows that he can't be an island and go it alone.  He knows that he needs to consult and work with others.

Is it the part where I corrected the poster who seemed to be saying that a town clerk was even relevant to this topic and suggested that a town clerk is subordinate to the town board and town supervisor?   No town clerk in or outside Schenectady County is relevant to this issue.  Furthermore, town clerks are elected separately from the town supervisor and town board .. those town clerks, town superintendent of highways, receiver of taxes that are elected by the voters work WITH and not for the town supervisor and town board --- that is just a fact.

It would be interesting to see the actual wording of the law involved.  Does it say that the BoE must notify by mail or does it just say notify?  When I ran for town office, I never received a notification by mail from the BoE but was aware of the required form .. and signed and submitted it as required.  I will also add that when I was a candidate and in all of my dealings with the BoE over the years that BOTH the Republican and Democratic commissioners and staff members were ALWAYS professional, above board, friendly and helpful to me.

BTW - it is an absolute lie (made up by the he/she troll) that I ever said or suggested that there was no law.

When I ran for town office,

The  MORNING of September 18, the following appeared in the Gazette.  Notice that it was quoted from an OFFICIAL from the STATE Board of Elections.   This was posted on this thread BEFORE 9:00 A.M.

Quoted Text
The state Board of Elections says the Schenectady County Board of Elections did not comply with the law by failing to notify Schenectady mayoral hopeful Roger Hull and four City Council candidates to accept nomination for the Alliance Party.
John Conklin, spokesman with the   state Board of Elections, said he was incorrect when he told The Daily Gazette on Wednesday that the county board was not required to send notice of the Aug. 21 deadline to accept nomination for an independent nominating body.

Then some 12 hours AFTERWARDS, DV writes:

It remains to be seen if any laws were broken by anyone at the Board of Elections

And again, the acting Rep commissioner, you claim she is a lawyer.   Her former husband was a lawyer, but you said she is a lawyer, you still have not replied as to what law school she graduated from.  Conveniently ignore a question, right?

My statement was written in simple English -- the WHOLE statement: If a law has been broken than the person(s) involved should be held accountable and removed from office.
