Joseph L. Allen Apartments

DePaul will construct a new three-story, 52,500 square foot building facing Albany Street in Schenectady's Hamilton Hill neighborhood that will feature fifty-one new apartments, called the Joseph L. Allen Apartments.  Construction is expected to begin later this year.

The apartments are named in honor of Schenectady's first African American City Councilman, a beloved and revered community member. His family still resides in the community and is honored by the name choice. The project goes before the city of Schenectady's zoning and Planning boards during the month of July.

Special thanks to the City of Schenectady, Schenectady County, the Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority and the Schenectady Community Action Program (SCAP) and City Councilwoman Marion Porterfield for partnering with DePaul to develop this housing.

OH because that's what they will end up looking like.....where is the potholed street the power lines strung from pole to pole not to mention the street in this sections is only wide enough for two lanes.
I love the happy people pictured walking around living their lives. The reality is the folk will be headed from here to DSS down the hill.

And look at the beautiful old solid building there now....Why not attempt to keep the facade like they did across the street so that it fits in with the street architecture

Instead they are ripping down to make way for what looks like a three story double wide trailer.

I agree....the original façade does look nice.

With all due respect, a non-taxpaying apartment complex named for a guy who thought he was above the law and wouldn't pay his own taxes.

Beat me to mentioning how he blatantly admitted at a council meeting he doesn't pay his taxes on time deliberately.  Real good person to present to our youth for someone to look up too.

That will be built on Albany St. and Hulett?  I thought it was supposed to be on Craig St.

That picture is a joke, clean nicely paved street with no gangs hanging out and no trash strewn all over lol.

One might ask why they are putting the "welfare apartments" in the worst neighborhood?  They should build them near the casino so people could actually walk to work and make some money.  Or build them in the GE Plot or somewhere in Upper Union St area.

Then the apartments Galesi builds should go on Albany St and rent for the $2,000 that they are downtown, after all it wouldn't make a difference to Galesi because his apartment buildings are tax exempt and this Allen project will be tax exempt.

Actually those Allen apartments would be ideal near the Alco or that area or especially near DV's Niskayuna office, the apartments would be perfect for the homeless families that the church takes care of.

McTHIEF is doing great to insure segregation in the city.
