ROTTERDAM - Old books, plates and glasses- these are some of the items left over from Christine Daniel's yard sale that she wanted to give away for free.
She posted an ad on Craigslist and put the boxes on her front wall. But, someone came and took something she really wanted to keep.
“I just was in awe. I was like am I seeing things right? What in the world is going on here?”
Then it hit her like a ton of bricks. Someone had really misunderstood the sign saying "For Free.”
“Everybody was just stunned like in absolute disbelief. I think all of us are saying who takes a wall?” said Daniel.
Neighbors driving by can't believe their eyes.
“I can’t. I can’t believe it,” said Lisa Baker.
“It’s totally bizarre just to take a wall,” said another neighbor.
Daniel says the stone wall had sentimental value to her landlord, who built it more than four decades ago. Daniel didn't see a thing, but neighbors tell her they saw a landscaping truck pull up Sunday afternoon. They saw two men take the wall apart and haul the stones away. But, because it was a landscaping truck, they didn't think anything of it.
“If it's really a landscaping company I think they should come and I think they should do a really nice job for my landlord because he’s really the victim in my eyes,” said Daniel.
Daniel put another ad on Craigslist. This one is pleading for the wall to be returned. No questions asked. In the meantime, she's trying to keep a sense of humor about this strange disappearance.
“I guess I’m going to have to put up a sign that says don't take the grass,” she laughed.
Rotterdam police say whoever did this could face felony charges. They're asking for anyone who saw anything to give them a call.
