I don't have washer hook ups in my home so I have always had a portable washer to hook up to my sink. My last washer which I threw out last week only lasted three years.

My question is does anyone know if it is ok to hook up a regular/full size washer to a kitchen sink faucet?  I called lowes was told no. Called home depot
was told yes. I'm so confused.

I believe a washing machine has seperate hot water and cold water hoses run into them.  I don't see how you could run a single hose from the faucet.  The temp settings on the washer wouldn't work.

You need 2 spigots with 3/4" hose thread ends to attach the water to the washer.

If you have a single faucet, you can still just add 2 shutoffs with 3/4"hose thread to the 2 lines running to the sink.

Pretty simple really.

Below the sink is usually 2 shutoffs already with supply tubes coming out and going to the sink faucet(s)

Just unscrew the shutoffs and add 2 tees, then reinstall the supply tube shutoffs.

If you have copper, you can simply cut the copper lines with a tubing cutter and install 2 sharkbite tees and shutoff valves with hose thread ends.

They use too many fittings in this photo, but this is the way to hook it up.

Just a tee in each supply line and a shutoff with hose thread after each tee.

thanks for the info. So I'll have to weigh the choices , hire a plumber to get a full size, or get a portable again.  

Hire a plumber....full size does better job, more energy efficient and more reliable for many more years than portable.

Could easily work. The only problem is you would have to hook it up to EITHER hot or cold water if you use the portable option.

It's actually very easy to make a proper hot/cold full washer hookup right off your kitchen sink piping.

back in the day, when we rented....we were allowed to have a full sized washer in our kitchen by our sink. we too had a portable one first.
the full sized washer that was easily installed, was much more efficient.
that's the route we'd suggest.
