WASHINGTON, July 30 (Reuters) - The White House said on Thursday that it will review the public petition to extradite the American dentist who allegedly killed "Cecil," a Zimbabwean lion. The petition has exceeded the required 100,000 signatures, and the White House has said it will respond to all petitions that meet that level.
White House spokesman Josh Earnest said it is up to the Justice Department to respond to an extradition order.

The severed head of Cecil the lion has now been located in Zimbabwe and turned over to officials there. However, the Minnesota dentist said to be responsible for Cecil's killing is still unaccounted for, according to a U.S. government agency, which issued a statement on Thursday asking him to please, please give them a call.
"The U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service is investigating the circumstances surrounding the killing of 'Cecil the lion.' That investigation will take us wherever the facts lead," said Edward Grace, the agency's deputy chief of law enforcement, in the statement.
"At this point in time, however, multiple efforts to contact Dr. Walter Palmer have been unsuccessful. We ask that Dr. Palmer or his representative contact us immediately," Grace added.
Reuters reports that the Fish and Wildlife Service is looking into whether Palmer violated the Lacey Act, which, among other things, makes it a federal crime to trade in wildlife killed in violation of foreign law.

HARARE, Zimbabwe (AP) — Zimbabwe intends to seek the extradition of an American dentist who killed a lion that was lured out of a national park and shot with a bow and a gun, and the process has already begun, a Cabinet minister said Friday.
"Unfortunately it was too late to apprehend the foreign poacher as he had already absconded to his country of origin," Oppah Muchinguri, Zimbabwe's environment, water and climate minister, told a news conference. "We are appealing to the responsible authorities for his extradition to Zimbabwe so that he be made accountable."
On Tuesday, American hunter Walter James Palmer issued a statement saying he relied on his guides to ensure the hunt was legal. Two Zimbabweans — a professional hunter and a farm owner — have been arrested in the lion killing that garnered worldwide condemnation.

Lion killing dentist Walter Palmer shared photo and bragged about killing Cecil
Walter Palmer, the Minnesota dentist who became a worldwide pariah after killing Zimbabwe’s “Cecil the lion,” reportedly showed pictures of the dead animal and boasted about killing him to a barmaid he was trying to dazzle, the Mirror is reporting.
According to the Doolittle’s Woodfire Grill employee who identified herself as Danielle, the 55-year -old married dentist showed her pictures of the dead lion on his phone while claiming he had broken records with the kill.
‘I was just like, ‘Oh’ when he showed it to me – I pretended I was interested but I really wasn’t” Danielle explained before pointing out “He told me he had broken some kind of record for the biggest lion but I wasn’t really that interested – he’s old enough to be my dad.”
According to the waitress, Palmer pops into the bar ” about once a month when he’s passing through but I guess we won’t be seeing him any more.”
Authorities in the U.S. were contacted on Thursday by a representative of the dentist who shut down his practice and has since gone into hiding.
