Go to a gun shop and put 10% down on a gun.

Then download the application from the Schenectady County Clerk's website.

Take the safety class.

Attach a couple photos and submit the forms.

In about a year they will call you to come pick up your license.

Saratoga County is more like 3 months.

I just helped a couple of people get theirs.

I've had mine since 1980.

I'm actually legal in 32 states.

NY CC Permit:

2) buy/put deposit down on a firearm
3) have 4 references submit reference forms to the sheriff
4) wait a few months
5) sheriff will send you a letter to come in for fingerprinting
6) submit the application with photos and letter to the judge when you come in for fingerprinting/background check
7) wait a bunch more months
county will send you a letter with appointment date to meet with the judge
9) meet with judge and get your permit card that day
10) go pick up your firearm

this gets you a restricted permit, you can apply for restrictions to be removed after a year if you want to C&C

pretty easy right?    It took me about 14 months, but I applied during the first year of the Safe act. They had a huge spike of applicants that year, so much so that the judge went from doing individual meetings to group meetings.

In the end, what did you give as reason for C&C that they accepted. My understanding is that is the part most difficult,...convincing them of the need.

Hunting and target shooting is the only license they will issue at this time, in Schenectady County.

After one year you can upgrade to full-time personal protection.

A friend of mine didn't listen and applied for personal protection, he was denied, made to wait one full year from the date of denial, then refiled his paperwork as hunting and target shooting and 16 months later he was approved.

He thought that being a restaurant owner on Western Avenue would be enough reason to get the full time concealed right away, instead of doing what they recommended.

They explain it all in great detail during the training classes.

Just FYI, a Florida concealed weapon permit can be done online and through the mail and it is valid in 31 states, not NY of course.

The Florida licenses take weeks, not months or years.

Interestingly, Florida licenses are issued by the Dept of Agriculture.

I don't think Judge Versaci will give one for any reason to a new applicant
