Rotterdam police are investigating an unattended package found at Rotterdam Square Mall.

Deputy Chief Bill Manikas said the police are checking to see whether the item found is a danger of any kind.

"Someone called in what they thought was a suspicious package," he said.

It is hardly "an overreaction."   The mall is a public space and public spaces have become targets for terrorists, wackos and criminals.  If the police had not investigated it and the package contained a bomb that went off, than people would be saying that the police didn't do enough to protect the community.  It is much better to be over-cautious and be wrong.

Suspicious package is any bag left on the floor at Rotterdam Mall.  Nobody buys anything from that mall, therefore it's suspicious.
