Well, in America, illegal acts of killing in the face of danger is considered brave and heroic. There is a movie called American Sniper that portrays Chris Kyle risking his life killing in an illegal war as brave and heroic. So though targeting a cop is completely illegal, crazy, and immoral. By the standards set by Chris Kyle, the news anchors words of "brave" is consistent with killing while risking your own life, regardless if the killing was legal or justified.
U.S. War propaganda has warped the just war theory by idolizing those that kill, even if the killing was an illegal action. Unfortunately the war propaganda is seeping into the civilian world.
