I agree with 55......now if the aquarium could have some educational program attached to the community college, ya know, like the casino and the nurse's aide program we'd have a nice little vacuum going.....

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

I think that the aquarium and the fun-zone will be a draw. The nearest aquariums are over 150 miles away. There really is nothing like the fun-zone nearby. Finally, I don't think that the owners would sink $1.5 million (of the $10 million that they plan to invest in improving the mall) into something that would be a loser. The owners actually have a track record with this. Those who are already predicting doom and gloom only have a track record of being negative. What have they (nayboobs) built that has improved the community?

Is the 1.5m for the aquarium, bowling and fun areas?? If so, that seems kinda low, doesn't it?
We are advised NOT to judge ALL Muslims by the actions of a few lunatics, but we are encouraged to judge ALL gun owners by the actions of a few lunatics. Funny how that works.

Oh -- and this is the important FACT -- have been a key factor in the growth of bowling facilities and bowling's popularity in the past few years. -- Another thing -- those FACTS on bowling come from the PBA (Pro Bowling Association)
From the PBA???????????
As stated from the USBC (ABC, WIBC, YABA) and the PBA:
[quote]
... “It’s a little different for the guys today.”
That certainly seems to be true.
The sport lulled in the 1980s and 1990s. By 2000, the debt-riddled PBA was doing so poorly
...
But 14 years later, the results don’t look so stellar. According to the United States Bowling Congress, league bowling once generated about 70% of a bowling center’s business; today, it generates only 40% of overall bowling business. Likewise, membership in the organization declined 36% from 2000-2010, and the number of bowling sanctioned alleys in the United States has been cut in half since the 1960s.
Things aren’t looking stellar for PBA bowlers, either.
there is a steep drop off in participation after the age of 18.

We ventured to the ROTTENdam square mall today. Had to pick up something from sears. we decided to walk thru the mall. it was dead. BUT.....it was clean and most places were freshly painted. It looked good. I hope they can revive the place. at least they are trying.

The media reported that the aquarium and fun-zone would cost about $1.5 million.

No "facts" from the PBA or USBC????? Conveniently avoid response, not surprised

Regarding HarryP's question: To clarify things, the aquarium is one project and the fun-zone which includes bowling is another project. The bowling is not separate from but is just 1 part of the fun-zone which will have a restaurant, bar and a number of other activities.

PBA = Dues membership organization...it does not mean everyone that bowls is a member. They are a sanctioning body and it is not mandatory that any league must enroll and be sanctioned!
Have you gone to a Rock-n-Bowl or similar bowling event, or bowling Bday party??? It is mostly kids, BOWLING AND HAVING FUN. AND THEY ARE NOT PBA MEMBERS. They are the target group for these mall resident venues!!!
By the way, never saw you retract your comment about ball weights....how come? Oh yah, forgot, you never say "oops", only skirt the errors with misdirection or avoidance!

and then folks bit@h when the developers are investing their own monies to at least 'try' to revive a 'dead mall'!!

^5 And btw, I think we can all agree based on their past history, that the only reason the two turds (aka mike and chris) even entered into this discussion, was to rag on their personal punching bag.

I heard the latitude 360 bowling place that was suppose to open in Crossgates has fallen through. The company is in free fall because profits are down at all their locations. It doesn't give me much confidence that this is an idea that will pan out in long term for Rotterdamn Square.
