It's a NON ISSUE...unenforceable. Can't even pass voter ID's, so mandatory could not succeed.
It's also a ridiculous goal.

voter ID will be connected with healthcare via nano-biological technology.....not to mention used for survival via food/water
and housing purchases.....

connectivity and voting.....the sham

The US Supreme Court has let Wisconsin's new voter ID law stand.  Hopefully, every state will act quickly to adopt similar laws which will ensure that our voting system is more secure.

from Reuters:  The law would require voters to present one of a handful of forms of photo ID such as a Wisconsin driver's license, a passport, a military ID or an ID card from a Wisconsin university or college.

In October, the high court temporarily blocked the Wisconsin law. It did not explain its reasoning, but it was most likely because the statute was being implemented so close to the November election, which could have caused confusion and disruption.

The Supreme Court has previously upheld the constitutionality of such voter ID laws.

The 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in October that the law was constitutional. Wisconsin's Supreme Court upheld the voter ID law in a separate ruling.

The case is Frank v. Walker, U.S. Supreme Court, 14-803.

I'll go along with mandatory voting on one condition.

That there is an option to delete the position by voting no.

This response is not about mandatory voting.  Some have recommended that there are ways to increase voter turnout short of mandatory voting.  I am just putting them out there - not saying they are either good or bad ideas:
a) set aside 2 days for General Elections .. maybe even hold them on a weekend
b) schedule all local (municipal and county) elections in even numbered years since those are usually when state and federal races are held .. the argument is that state and federal races attract higher turnout .. another potential benefit is that it would avoid the extra cost of holding elections in odd years

you will be able to stay home, access the internet, get your iris scanned and send your vote in......

if you want your 'tax return' you must vote....

if you want your full paycheck you must vote.....

there are a multitude of ways to coerce people to vote.....the first step is in making it as easy as voting on American idol/dancing with
the stars etc etc.......

train the brain....

Quoted Text
You take a mortal man
And put him in control
Watch him become a god
Watch people's heads a'roll
A'roll, a' roll

Just like the Pied Piper
Led rats through the streets

We dance like marionettes
Swaying to the symphony
Of destruction

Acting like a robot
Its metal brain corrodes
You try to take its pulse
Before the head explodes
Explodes, explodes

Just like the Pied Piper
Led rats through the streets
We dance like marionettes
Swaying to the symphony

Just like the Pied Piper
Led rats through the streets
We dance like marionettes
Swaying to the symphony
Swaying to the symphony
Of destruction

The earth starts to rumble
World powers fall
A'warring for the heavens
A peaceful man stands tall
Tall, tall

Just like the Pied Piper
Led rats through the streets
We dance like marionettes
Swaying to the symphony

Just like the Pied Piper
Led rats through the streets
We dance like marionettes

Swaying to the symphony
Swaying to the symphony
Of destruction

Oh there clearly should be some kind of system....everyone would agree to that.
A system by the people....for the people.
not by the government...for the government!!
HOWEVER....in a free society, .....I should be forced to VOTE!!!

Perhaps you should re-read history regarding anarchists...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anarchism_in_the_United_States

I was referring to Libertarian .. not you.

In our Democratic Republic, WE are the government IF we choose to vote, keep our elected officials accountable and get involved to help elect candidates that we like and/or run for office ourselves.  I think that we should do something short of mandatory voting to encourage/give incentives to people to vote.   Mandatory voting is NOT a cure all.  Especially if people keep reelecting do-nothing politicians like Tonko and Farley who have made a career out of doing nothing and living off taxpayer dollars.

mandatory voting gives to the same mentality as 'pick this healthy cereal for part of your healthy breakfast'....no matter the cereal
you pick it's still really not that good but you have to eat....don't you?

It's a constitutional republic.  The government is the constitution, not the people. The word democracy is not mentioned in the Declaration of Independence or the Constitution.

I happen to disagree with you.  I believe that we are a democratic republic.  The reference to democracy has been used so many times by so many people that it is understood that the U.S. is a democracy and a republic.

BTW - the words "separation of church and state" are not mentioned in the Constitution.

Anyway, the actual topic is mandatory voting.  I remain skeptical as to whether it would be a good idea to implement it.  There are a lot of other things that we could do to encourage participation and voting.  To me, mandatory voting is like mandatory "service hours."   You don't really encourage people to give of their time for the right reasons when you have "mandatory volunteering."

I understand the democracy is referenced quite a lot.  But the constitution specifically guarantees the state's a republic form of government not a democracy.  Representatives are supposed to uphold the constitution and maximize personal liberty, not serve their constituents every desire.

I agree with your assessment on separation of church and state too.  That is also mistaken by most as a governing philosophy of the founders.

There is no shortage of ignorant Americans.  Consensus belief is good enough for the lazy.  Americans love mobocracy as long as they are with the majority of the mob.
