LINCOLN COUNTY, MO.—A 6-year-old Missouri boy’s mother, grandmother and aunt are accused of staging a kidnapping, then holding the child for four hours to teach him about stranger danger.
They hatched the plot to scare the boy because they said he was “too nice” to people, police said.
The boy’s mother, Elizabeth Hupp, grandmother, Rose Brewer and aunt, Denise Kroutil, allegedly engaged the help of Nathan Firoved, who worked with Kroutil at a gas station.
Firoved waited for the boy to get off his bus after school, then lured the child into his pickup truck, police say.
While in the truck, Firoved, 23, told the boy he would never “see his mommy again,” and he would be “nailed to the wall of a shed,” police said.
As the boy started to cry, Firoved showed him a handgun and told the child if he didn’t stop crying he would hurt him, authorities said.
Firoved continued driving the boy around in his truck, then because he would not stop crying, Firoved bound the boy’s hands and feet with plastic bags and covered his face with an adult-sized jacket so he couldn’t see, police said.
Later, Firoved took the boy — still blindfolded — to the basement of his own home and left him there, authorities said. The boy’s aunt, Kroutil, removed his pants and told him he could be sold into “sex slavery.” She also chastised him because he did not try to resist her. He did not recognize her voice.

The child was kept in the basement for an undetermined amount of time before he was untied and told to go upstairs. There his family lectured him about stranger danger, police said.
Firoved, Brewer, 58, and Kroutil, 38, were charged Thursday with felony kidnapping, felonious restraint and abuse or neglect of a child. Hupp, 25, was charged with felony kidnapping and abuse or neglect of a child.
During the entire event, the four remained in contact by cellphone as they terrorized the boy, police said.
Police were alerted Wednesday after the boy told school officials. He was unsure of the exact day the kidnapping happened. The school contacted the Division of Family Services.
Police seized two handguns from Firoved’s truck.
Family members told investigators their primary intent was to educate the boy and felt they did nothing wrong.
The child was placed into protective custody. Police said they have been unable to locate the boy’s father.
All four were being held in the Lincoln County Jail on $250,000 bail.
Jerry Dunn, executive director at Children’s Advocacy Services of Greater St. Louis, would not comment directly on the case. But speaking in general, she said taking actions that disrupt a child’s trust and sense of security hurts healthy child development.
“Kids at that age need their physical and psychological safety,” said Dunn, whose centre at the University of Missouri-St. Louis serves traumatized children. “If that is compromised it can have a really profound effect on their functioning and their future interactions with the world.”
Dunn said that’s especially true when the trauma involves people with whom they have a strong emotional attachment.

Personally, I think think these parents' actions were criminal and abusive.

The kid's parents thought he was too nice to strangers.

Just like the people recently in Rotterdam and Schenectady who were too nice to strangers and gave the stranger money when the stranger gives some sob story about being lost, out of gas and left wallet home, etc. and the stranger promises to pay them back and asks the people for their name and address to send them a check.

They story does not explain everything about the child and what the child had done to be referred to as being too nice to people.

Not saying I agree with their method of teaching their child, I do think they went overboard, but more needs to be known about the family dynamics.

But then, thank goodness that no child will have a father who is a 50+ yr old mama's boy who is not even a normal enough adult to be independent and self sufficient

Optimists close their eyes and pretend problems are non existent.
Better to have open eyes, see the truths, acknowledge the negatives, and
speak up for the people rather than the politicos and their rich cronies.

There is no need to know what the "family dynamics" were.  What kind of mentally deranged, ignorant dumb a** would even suggest that there might be an excuse for parents to have their 6 year old child kidnapped at gun point, told that he would be "nailed to the wall of a shed," would never see his mother again, have the child's hands and feet bound - and have his pants removed and told that he would be sold into sex slavery?????

it's what public schools do to kids in a more insidious way.......

see something-say something
lock downs
metal detectors
police presence in schools
ADD/ADHD 'diagnosis' with prescribed drugs(meth based)
everyone gets a trophy mentality
government directed killing makes heroes
etc etc.....

I'm not agreeing with the parents but they aren't far off the mark of what society has made.....you know, that writhing mass
of humans in 'a clockwork orange'.....

The items that you mention are NOT in any way comparable to parents setting it up so that their child is kidnapped at gunpoint, bound hand and foot, and threatened with sexual abuse.

Old enough to know that your statement on this subject doesn't make any sense.

Old enough know that the nayboob who said that he/she would have to know the "family dynamics" first before judging these obviously abusive and criminal actions of those parents. Anyone who thinks that way should have their children removed from their homes and never be allowed within 1000 feet of any child.

Can you imagine if the actions of these parents became accepted, standard procedure for teaching children.  During Fire Prevention Week, would it be ok to teach the danger of fires by putting an elementary school class in a burning building?  One could go on and on -- but it is plain to see that what those parents did was not only absolutely wrong but abusive and criminal.

I know imagine that...Imagine if public schools staged life-like SWAT raids into schools with armed men running around the halls yelling and screaming, scaring the sh*t out of the kids, in an attempt to simulate a school shooting lock down drill?  That would be nuts wouldn't it?...wait...what?  OH...Schools DO THAT ALREADY.  Never mind.  That's completely normal in government buildings.

Really?  You actually think that child abuse is "really nobody's business"?

Are school lockdown drills that lock kids in a room while police run through the halls screaming and terrorizing children considered child abuse?

You are changing the subject .... throwing oyt red herrings (as usual).   I will answer your question  IF and ONLY IF .. you deal with the ACTUAL TOPIC first. Do you think that what those parents did - hiring someone to kidnap their child at gun point, bind the child's hands and legs, take off his pants and threaten to sell him into sex slavery, etc.  was abusive and criminal?
