I think with instant news, there's pressure on all ends... the pols, the weather guys, the media...If you're going to err, err on the side of caution...
With that said, this storm missed being a historic one for NYC by going 65 miles east of where it was modeled and forecasted....HOWEVER, I watch the accuweather forums where amateur and professional forecasters hang out... Several of them with no skin in a the game, called this storm a bust for NYC on Monday afternoon..because they looked at ACTUAL developing weather data instead of relying on computer models...

Yep. And to further confuse things, they don't use one model, but several.

Weather forecasting is fine.  Until politicians start using forecasts to restrict travel, and call people that are skeptical of the accuracy of a forcast a "denier".

Cicero just hates the fact that our 'socialist' govt cares about it's citizens.  Cissy prefers anarchy.

Yeah, closing the subway in NYC and closing roads  for no reason besides a forcast is caring.  Box's socialists care because citizens are too stupid.  Individuals using their own judgement is anarchy.  Without a centralized authority directed the masses into unnecessary panic, they wouldn't be caring.

It was a battle of 'Never let a good crisis go to waste' between Cuomo and Di Blasio....Who was going to be the hero.

It failed...Terribly.

I've always been entertained when they use airport snowfall as a barometer to dictate closings.   When it's 14 inches there and 3 inches in front of the house 8 miles away it seems rather bewildering.

Bridgewater, NJ — In America, “Land of Opportunity,” you are free to pursue your dreams of financial freedom, provided you have filled out the proper form and been extorted by the proper bureaucrat.

Two teenage boys from Bridgewater, New Jersey are getting a hard does of this statism after their pursuance of financial freedom landed them in hot water with the fuzz.

Earlier this week, Matt Molinari and his friend Eric Schnepf, both seniors in High School, were going door-to-door advertising their snow shoveling services in advance of the storm. School was out, and instead of sitting inside and playing XBOX, these two young entrepreneurs felt the fire of enterprise and decided to turn their down time into an actual dime.

However, Molinari and Schnepf apparently didn’t realize that in order to make a dime you have to pay a quarter — to the state. When the two boys were out trying to rustle up some business during what they saw as an opportunity, along came the uniformed agents of the state, to put this unapproved business venture out to pasture.
