Ya can't convert an anti-war person into a military war machine....and obviously visa versa.
Honestly.....I never heard such ranting and degrading trying to defend the military as I have from box/joeboxer.
I thought military folks (especially marines) were taught to be respectful gentlemen who have a handle on self control.
What I see here is military folks, out of control, attacking anti-war folks as tho they are the 'enemy combatant'.
sad...

I don't believe anyone is berating 'servicewo/men'......the berating is at the government who insists on using 'servicewo/men'
as propaganda pawns.....

Good point and as you see box wants you to convert and be forced to be apart of his religion, at gun point if necessary. Amazing how a Atheist who preaches about the force of religion wants to force his religion of the military on you I gotta laugh at this, when tempers fly you see what really lies beneath, that's why I love these little online battles and cicero is great at getting them to speak in tongues

As posted above military service is just one way to 'serve your country'.  IMO, everyone should spend at least 1
or 2 years of their life 'giving' to their country.   Kind of the opposite of the selfish attitude of many on this board.

if the government has a right to send/do to it's military what ever it deems 'needed' then a corporation has a right to have
it's employees do what ever it deems is 'needed'.....

you see, I just don't understand the single-mindedness of 'the government is right because I am a soldier' ......

because then it would apply to every thing....

'the company is right because I am an employee'

see, I don't think hero worship as a pawn mover is proper....it's the same argument of the 'walmart worker', who following the
'government is right because I am soldier' motto, also becomes a hero, and not any less than the soldier....

the 'underpaid' walmart worker pays taxes to send soldiers overseas to garner 'freedom' to companies to produce products for
same said walmart.......

so explain to me how the soldier is being berated on this forum.... please

Let me try to address only 2 of your items:
(1) Show me any post by any service man/woman that makes that ridiculous claim.
I think you will be hard pressed to do that..at least I do not recall that ever being said.
(2) I cannot believe you ask for this clarification with all the posts you have read
and participated in over the past several years...what were you reading?

I think you said you want mandatory service.  So you believe the government should TAKE 1 to 2 years of everybody's life to provide a service for them.

The government already takes/extorts 2>3 months of MY yearly salary. IT'S MANDATED!!
that's about as far as my 'service to the government' goes!!!

they don't make the claim overtly silly.....and I don't even think they realize it, as the public does not either....

just because the government says it's good to be a soldier doesn't make it any more important than a walmart worker...

the public/government have idolized 'spartan mentality' for centuries....I think soldiers take it to heart that what the
government says they are, actually IS them as a human....their troop/rank etc(I don't know the terminology, much
like most of the public doesn't understand medical terminology).....I don't believe soldiers to be what the government
tells them they are on their discharge papers.....

same with college degrees.....a student with a 3.0 will get the same degree as a student with a 4.0 but each will do different
things with it....still just a college graduate after having been monetarily extorted....

a soldier having done said 'duty' (according to Box, everyone should) will have had 2 years of their life extorted from them....

remember.....everybody's time IS their 'money'........we live for a measly 80 years MAYBE and you want to mandate the government
to take a couple.....

WOW!!!

you b**ch about corporate greed and yet blind patriotic warfare (maybe death/maiming) is OK????

again, explain to me the 'hero mentality'....so the government tosses a vets discount for the voluntary choice to participate in warfare
and that's good enough for you?

our country is nothing more than a speck in the universe and we are it's mosquitoes....

the extortion of the human commodity is alive and well on planet earth....with heroes to help perpetuate it.....

I know.  Giving without getting is such a foreign concept for you Cicero.
You are a "ME".  I doubt you'll ever understand anything to do with "WE".

I give plenty-voluntarily.  I just don't believe YOU get to decide how many years of my life is to be TAKEN to "serve" some bureaucrats decree.  When I'm laying on my death bed, my forced service to some government ruling over people located inside some arbitrary boarders drawn on a map will mean very little to me.  Serving a stranger because they need help - will.  I don't serve the state.  I thought serfdom died in the Middle Ages.  I can't believe people desire the return of it.

You are right...I will not understand WE and a national identity.  The national identity used to mean WE allowed each other to be a ME, without some collective conscience determined by the vote of a simple majority of rule makers.

How long have you been a member of this forum ?

Before Box and Joe there was a member of this forum Occam s Razor-  who was a war veteran-  Mike Powell from the defunct Schenectady board was pilloried relentlessly .

This is a forum where some people need to have a vowel movement every 10 minutes  and so it can get messy if your not wearing a raincoat.

again, you're missing the point....I don't care if someone is/was a soldier. It was a choice. I and, if I'm reading cicero/bumble
etc correctly, it's about mass 'brain washing'.
I guess you can't separate the soldier from the government much like you can't separate the jihadist from Islam....
however, I don't think this is true.

the value as a human being shouldn't be based on what the government/religion labels you:
1. married
2. gay
3. hero
4. poor
5. middle class
6. republican/democrat
etc etc.....

And as me and bumble posted we already give 2-3 months a year to the government, is that not enough? You take that 2-3 months and place that over 50+ years and you do the math. But I'm guessing this is not the "giving" you are talking about, you want more of our blood and sweat and possibly our lives like those who were kidnapped, held hostage, made to go against their religious beliefs, and sent to die in Nam, 17,725 to be exact. If that is your take on "giving" you can have it, I won't have any part in it. How is it any different from say ISIS who is kidnapping, holding hostage, making others change their religion, and then cutting their throats afterwards, it is no different.
