Well box, there are books that aren't comic books that describe war for an authoritative position. One of those books for instance is called 'War is a Racket'(maybe you've heard of it, it was written by a marine corpse Major General).
But what I can't let you get away with, is continually asserting the notion that soldiers are not compensated. As if compensation and benefits like the ROTC program are not reasons people choose to join. You may have had other options in your life, where you could have chosen not to join the military and have worked in the civilian world and earned a living. But there are people that did not have many options, and the military option was better than working the McDonalds drive-thru. For many, the military is the best option of a few. The rich don't send their kids to serve, but they certainly profit off of the poor who do serve.
I don't serve a country. I serve other people. I serve my neighbor. And service certainly doesn't mean sticking the barrel of a gun in somebody's ribs and forcing them to live the way I think is best. I leave that style of service to you maniacs.
