We honor you, O veterans. You are our heroes. We idolize you. Thank you for your service. You are role models for our children. Without you we would all be speaking German, Japanese, Korean, or Vietnamese. And thank you for winning the Cold War so we didn’t have to learn Russian. We wish your pensions were higher. We hope that the VA hospitals will take better care of you. We think you deserve the finest artificial limbs that money can buy. We think you have earned the right to the best mental health and substance abuse treatments available. Thank you for fighting for our freedoms. Thank you for defending the United States by fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. We wish all businesses would give you discounts and special employment opportunities. We wish all restaurants would give you free meals. Thank you for policing the world so that we can sleep safely at night. We encourage you to become police officers so you can utilize the skills you have learned in the military as you protect and serve us. Thank you for fighting “over there” so we don’t have to fight “over here.”

Thank you Sissy, we all appreciate your gratitude!
We all wish that you could have joined us and experienced
the reality of military service so that your understanding
of just what we really are about would have been of benefit
to you and made you a better person.

military service is a religion......it turns power into 'freedom'

the pope and the president are on equal ground.....

religion doesn't have to do with invisible god heads as much as heads of state, you know, like the state of the human mind as it is
very malleable

...you are a product of your environment, your environment is a product of your priorities, your priorities are a product of you......

The replacement of morality and conscience with law produces a deadly paradox.

A little history:

Armistice Day Becomes Veterans Day

World War I officially ended on June 28, 1919, with the signing of the Treaty of Versailles.
The actual fighting between the Allies and Germany, however, had ended seven months
earlier with the armistice, which went into effect on the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month
in 1918. Armistice Day, as November 11 became known, officially became a holiday in the United States in 1926,
and a national holiday 12 years later. On June 1, 1954, the name was changed to Veterans Day to honor all U.S. veterans.

In 1968, new legislation changed the national commemoration of Veterans Day to the fourth Monday in
October. It soon became apparent, however, that November 11 was a date of historic significance to
many Americans. Therefore, in 1978 Congress returned the observance to its traditional date.

Veterans day is just another day for corporate America to advertise their SALES!!!!

It has become nothing more than a day off for some and a money maker for corporate America who commercializes EVERYTHING!!

.........NEXT UP.........good old thanksgiving!!! that is always good for an economic kick start to the Christmas season!!

exactly....I wonder why it turned into veterans day? they needed votes? the vietnam 'war' was killing the kids?

you see how that political slight of hand changed that there.....keep voting for the masters, they have our chains tight

Quoted Text
On December 1, 1969, the Selective Service System of the United States conducted two lotteries to determine the order of call to military service in the Vietnam War for men born from 1944 to 1950. These lotteries occurred during "the draft"—a period of conscription, controlled by the President, from just before World War II to 1973.

The lottery numbers assigned in December 1969 were used during calendar year 1970 both to call for induction and to call for physical examination, a preliminary call covering more men.

if you think it was unintentional it wasn't.....as Pelosi once said "you gotta vote for it to see what's in it"

Origins and consequences[edit]
In the late 1960s, President Nixon established a commission to recommend the best way to raise military manpower, to keep the draft or to institute a volunteer army. After much debate within the Nixon administration and in Congress, it was decided that an all-volunteer force was feasible, was affordable, and would enhance the nation’s security.[4] According to the Department of Defense in 2003, an all-volunteer force is and would have been more cost-efficient.

Folks, both here and abroad are getting sick and tired of fighting, losing their loved one in OTHER COUNTRY'S battles.

America Celebrates It's Veterans
(Except for the haters on this board, of course)
The Rest of America turns out to honor US Veterans:

CELEBRITY CONCERT
Bruce Springsteen, Rihanna, Eminem and Metallica were among the headliners for a free concert
on the National Mall to raise awareness for issues affecting veterans, In Washington, D.C.
Tuesday's first-of-its-kind Concert for Valor is expected to draw hundreds of thousands of fans to
the Mall. The Veterans Day event was spearheaded by Starbucks president Howard Schultz.

VETERAN BONUSES
State officials in Ohio used the holiday to remind Iraq war veterans that time is running out to
claim bonuses of up to $1,500. Ohio voters in 2009 approved a $200 million bond issue to fund
bonuses for veterans of the Persian Gulf, Afghanistan and Iraq war eras.

VETERANS PERKS AND FREEBIES
Veterans Day is not only a time to honor those who have served in the military. For American
businesses, it's also a time to back up that appreciation with a freebie.
Many national chains, as well as mom-and-pop retailers around the U.S., offered free goods
and services to anyone who has served in the military, a trend that has been growing since the
Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. They included IHOP pancakes, Starbucks coffee

(Meanwhile, the board haters sit and sulk over the country wide celebration to honor US Vets.)

What is so happy about Veterans Day?  Is it the quadriplegics or the psychological trauma resulting from senseless wars?
