Ok, must admit my math must suck and comprehension is suffering on this one.
Can't work 7 days a week
but can work 12 consecutive days if first is MON
and that gives someone 24hrs time off....

Because in the eyes of the all knowing and always logical state.  If you start your work week on Monday, the first "work week" you technically worked is Monday thru Saturday(6 days) and the second "work week", you worked Sunday thru Friday(6 days).  For a total of 12 consecutive days.  But never a 7 day work week.

It's not your math Joey, it's the brilliant labor law.

I agree....HOWEVER.....we aint in Kansas anymore!

We never were in Kansas (thank God) and I still think it (businesses closing on more holidays and people getting back to spending a "sabbath day" with their families) is something to work towards

Correct.

State work week is Sunday 1201am through Saturday midnight.

The first week you get 24 hours of Sunday off and the second week you get 24 hours of Saturday off.

No violations.

In actual practice, that means that you can work every other weekend indefinitely.

Most local factories now have alternative shifts that include the weekends as part of their 40 hour workweek, thereby paying straight time for weekend work.

But, the places that do have weekend crews also usually pay better than average wages to all crews.

Keep in mind, having people working weekends for straight time was an inevitable reaction to the law requiring overtime over 40 hours.

God forbid the government let supply and demand be used to staff a business, instead of government regulation.

I used to know this other government who decided their dictated structured system and wage rules for everyone, was the greatest thing since sliced bread.

They went out of business in the 80s.

As I said way back towards the beginning of the thread --- people should be allowed a sabbath day off -- whatever their faith's sabbath day is.   If more people took 1 day off every week to not work and not run out shopping -- 1 day off each week to just be with their families and relax with their families - than society would be better off.
All those holidays should be set aside, too.   American society has wasted too much time chasing a dollar.  Life is too short for that.
Capitalism/consumerism is what drives the country and where much tax revenue is derived from to pay for Infrastructure,Gov't pensions, etc.   If you start to limit business's being open when they choose to be open where would you draw the line?   Close casinos, movie theaters, arts venues, gas stations, etc. so all could be with their families?   If the family bond is strong enough those individuals so inclined will find a way to be with their kin.   Some would prefer to work anyways as not all are  into the"family experience".   Even if all the stores were "forced" to close their is always online shopping to tempt them.   So they may be in the home with their familys, but distracted with the computer doing their shopping anyway.   THen what?   Close the online stores as well?   It would seem one cannot escape the temptation to spend/consume which is what it is all about anyways in a capitalistic/consuming driven enviroment.

Then after we get all the stores to close on New Year's Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Veterans Day and Thanksgiving Day -- we should get them to close on Sundays.   Then the whole nation can keep holy the sabbath day.

Sunday, really?

So you want the government to violate the Constitution and declare Christianity being the official religion of the U.S.    All businesses must close.  Jewish people, Islamic people, people of other non Christians faiths, and even atheists must abide by YOUR preferred religion.

You put your foot in your mouth again, trying to force YOUR PERSONAL beliefs on the whole country and now you REFUSE to address this.

Yeah, the DV ( Dictator  Voice)  who CLAIMS to be a Catholic, the guy who MASQUERADES as a Catholic who opposes the teachings of Jesus.  Jesus OPPOSES the poor in Schenectady paying for lavish new buildings for the rich, He OPPOSES the poor in the city paying the taxes of the rich downtown.  But DV CHEERS AND 1,000% supports the poor paying the taxes of the rich under threat of losing their homes.

DV will REFUSE to address these FACTS.  He does not have a loving wife and children with whom to spend Sundays with.

How is DV's statement of his "requirements" for Sundays any less "idiotic" than what you claim MC1's to be? Or is that not REALLY the point?

I see DVOR's statements as his opinion of how he believes Sunday should be
recognized and why, because he is supposedly a devote Catholic. His comments
are just indications of what his religious and political positions would be.

MC1 is an attack on family core as the driver behind the statements. There is no
room for that kind of attack and it insults many people, as I've stated.

Maybe others may take it different, and that is their right. I take it to be
as I posted.

Tell me tbird, at the same time, what value do both of the MC1 posts have
in this topic...seems like just an opportunity for his personal vendetta on DV.

Other than the last sentence of the last post, as about as much as the rest of ours.
DV started this thread wishing for LAWS to be passed that would restrict business to conduct itself based on one or more religions doctrine...
Either we keep Religious edicts out of law all the way or not at all. We can not be selective..
DV put it out there ...wanting to legislate something that should not be legislated.

We are in agreement on that! When a politician brings religion into their
political discussions, that's when I stop listening. I believe someone at
some time said something about separation of church and state....interesting concept!

It's religious angle that has powered a good portion of the GOP platform since Reagan...and that has cost them votes and will do so until it changes.
Interesting though that the term "separation of church and state" is found no where in the constitution...its nothing more than an interpretation of a portion of the 1st amendment, but I'd be willing to bet a majority of Americans think the term is in it. Also, the term Freedom of Religion and Freedom from religion...those are a little more grey..with Freedom of Religion (choice) being a little more clear....For the atheists who want all forms of religion out of public areas (freedom from religion)..IMHO, think that's a tough sell since the "establishment of a national religion" is not there...

Found this interesting if you read the whole opinion:
http://www.forbes.com/sites/billflax/2011/07/09/the-true-meaning-of-separation-of-church-and-state/
Quoted Text
The True Meaning of Separation of Church and State
Our nation was predicated on unalienable rights with governance through family, church and community, each rightfully sovereign within its sphere. Human dignity, legal equality and personal freedom reflect biblical values imparted on Western Civilization, which retains these values in secular form while expunging their Author from public discourse.

Americans are frequently reminded of what the revisionists deem our greatest achievement: “Separation of Church and State.” Crosses are ripped down in parks. Prayer has been banished from schools and the ACLU rampages to remove “under God” from the Pledge of Allegiance. Moreover, “Separation of Church and State” is nowhere found in the Constitution or any other founding legislation. Our forefathers would never countenance the restrictions on religion exacted today.

The phrase “separation of church and state” was initially coined by Baptists striving for religious toleration in Virginia, whose official state religion was then Anglican (Episcopalian). Baptists thought government limitations against religion illegitimate. James Madison and Thomas Jefferson championed their cause.

The irony of the champions of separation of church and state and religious freedom, is that they are same people that are the biggest supporters of a nation created in 1948 in the middle of a predominately Muslim world, that has a big Star of David on its flag.  And they say..."They are our greatest ally".  Go figure.
