It will be a holiday after all! Leading stores announce they WON'T open on Thanksgiving amid anger that traditional time at home is being lost to shoppingBy ALEXANDRA KLAUSNER
PUBLISHED: 16:39 EST, 31 October 2014 | UPDATED: 17:49 EST, 31 October 2014

Costco will be closed on Thanksgiving and will wait to open until 9am on black Friday, it has announced
The chain is part of a counter-movement among stores refusing to open over the holidays
Nordstrom is another big name refusing to open
Macy's and Kohl’s are among the stores who started opening on Thanksgiving - refusing to wait until Black Friday to start their sales
Early sales allow the stores to cash in but it means shop workers lose out on the time off

More and more employees are giving thanks after a wave of stores including Costco and Nordstrom - once open on Thanksgiving - are now closing so that staff can enjoy the holiday with family.
Macy's and Kohl’s have previously led the way for sales to start early - opening on Thanksgiving rather than Black Friday.
A Facebook page called Boycott Shopping on Thanksgiving along with various other online petitions were formed to stop shopping on the family holiday. The Facebook group has almost 7,000 signatures.
And it appears the campaign is working.

(My additional comments: Once, we save Thanksgiving from the greedy hands of retail "Grinches" -- we have to work on saving other holidays like -  New Year's Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Labor Day.)

Thank goodness!

Now people can stay home, take in a little football, and watch the endless videos of soldiers taking time out from their assigned duties of killing foreigners to enjoy a turkey dinner, and with the obligatory “thanks for defending our freedom" coming from the warmongers.

LMAO don't forget the surprise visit by one of our politicians at one of our military bases overseas, that comes with the great photo op of them carving up turkeys and serving our troops

Cuz nothing says "thank you" like a politician serving turkey to men and women sent thousands of miles away to kill Arabs.

The boycotts are nothing but feel good BS...The stores that open on Thanksgiving are doing so because they see a business case ....or they wouldn't. If people want to shop on thanksgiving? LET THEM......And the ones that have to work? They'll be right along side the police, firefighters, hospital and nursing home workers, and convenience store workers that do it as a matter of fact.
If they don't like it? find another employer.

Then after we get all the stores to close on New Year's Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Veterans Day and Thanksgiving Day -- we should get them to close on Sundays.   Then the whole nation can keep holy the sabbath day.

...Then we can all go to Christian churches and sit in our pews and listen to the pastors give sermons honoring the sacrifice of the troops overseas -- All in Jesus' name of course(Prince of Peace--Ironic isn't it?)  I always wondered if Jesus honored the Roman soldiers "sacrifice" for keeping the Roman Empire "free"...

Never would tell anyone where they should shop.  In days past, Christians shop owners closed on Sundays, Jewish shop owners on Saturdays and Muslims on Fridays.  Everyone was happy -- keeping their respective sabbaths.  Sabbath is a good thing -- on whatever day your faith sets aside as its sabbath day.  Everyone needs to rest on the seventh day and spend time with their families and loved ones.

You don't believe that should be up to the store owners?
