I'm beginning to think American exceptionalism just means the U.S. government is the only exception that is allowed to commit war crimes without prosecution.

Really?

The war was in Iraq before we invaded?

Japan bombs us so we attack:

Italy
Nancy, France
Hurtgen Forest, German-Belgian border
Angaur, Palau Islands
The Netherlands
Peleliu, Palau Islands
Metz, France
Aachen, Germany
Santa Cruz Islands, Solomon Islands
Morocco and Algeria
Ruhr Area, Germany
El Guettar, Tunisia
Normandy, France
Saipan, Mariana Islands
Sicily, Italy
Guam, Mariana Islands
Luzon, Philippines
Anzio and Nettuno, Italy
Alsace and Lorraine, France
Monte Cassino, Italy
Manila, Philippines
Kasserine Pass, Tunisia
The Ardennes, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Germany
Southern France
Northern Italy
Bataan Peninsula, Philippines
Brittany, France
Wesel, Germany
Leyte Gulf, The Philippines
Alsace, France

55 million total casualties in ww2.

33 million were civilians.

Thank for clearing things up.

When the US is attacked, the world will get destroyed if we get pissed off enough.

Logic and going after those who attacked us is not even relative.

We get a coalition of willing supporters that help us kill and destroy anything we fear.

What about Hitler?  He was involved in a European war.  He had no intentions of dragging the US into a European war.  He was as much of a threat to the US as Saddam Hussein.  The USG has been bombing Iraq since 1991.  And they are bombing again.  Twenty three years and counting.

No really.    didnt he/germaany declare war againt the us ?

Yeah, after Pearl Harbor, and after US ships had already been attacking german u-boats.  The U.S. engaged both the Japanese and Germans before the declaration of war.

The uboats were attacked because they were sinking US cargo ships...nothing more than a defense of US commerce

This is beyond disgusting! And we call BEHEADINGS brutal????????

Quoted Text
Since Parsons had been instrumental in the development of the bomb, he was now responsible for arming the bomb while in-flight. Approximately fifteen minutes into the flight (3:00 a.m.), Parsons began to arm the atomic bomb; it took him fifteen minutes. Parsons thought while arming "Little Boy": "I knew the Japs were in for it, but I felt no particular emotion about it."

Quoted Text
Captain Robert Lewis, the co-pilot, stated, "Where we had seen a clear city two minutes before, we could no longer see the city. We could see smoke and fires creeping up the sides of the mountains."5 Two-thirds of Hiroshima was destroyed. Within three miles of the explosion, 60,000 of the 90,000 buildings were demolished. Clay roof tiles had melted together. Shadows had imprinted on buildings and other hard surfaces. Metal and stone had melted.

Quoted Text
A survivor described the damage to people:

The appearance of people was . . . well, they all had skin blackened by burns. . . . They had no hair because their hair was burned, and at a glance you couldn't tell whether you were looking at them from in front or in back. . . . They held their arms bent [forward] like this . . . and their skin - not only on their hands, but on their faces and bodies too - hung down. . . . If there had been only one or two such people . . . perhaps I would not have had such a strong impression. But wherever I walked I met these people. . . . Many of them died along the road - I can still picture them in my mind -- like walking ghosts.

Quoted Text
Fujie Urata Matsumoto, a survivor, shares one scene:

The pumpkin field in front of the house was blown clean. Nothing was left of the whole thick crop, except that in place of the pumpkins there was a woman's head. I looked at the face to see if I knew her. It was a woman of about forty. She must have been from another part of town -- I had never seen her around here. A gold tooth gleamed in the wide-open mouth. A handful of singed hair hung down from the left temple over her cheek, dangling in her mouth. Her eyelids were drawn up, showing black holes where the eyes had been burned out. . . . She had probably looked square into the flash and gotten her eyeballs burned.

The cargo ships were knowingly entering a war zone and supplying German enemies.

he sure took the 'bush II ball' and ran with it....huh?

Quoted Text
Since he became President, the Nobel Peace Prize winner has directed invasions into 7 countries:

1Afghanistan: Much criticized by the Afghani local government, Obama continued George W. Bush’s use of bombing, via aircraft and drones, of targets.

2Pakistan: Drone attacks have continued here as well.

3Libya: The U.S. bombed Libya in March 2011. The situation has certainly not improved, as evidenced in part by the U.S. Embassy killings in 2012 and the evacuation of all American staff two months ago.

4Yemen: Since Obama took office, almost 100 drone attacks have occurred there.

5Somalia: American drones have attacked and killed terrorists throughout the country.

6Iraq: Renewed bombings began in Iraq last month, following George H. W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush in attacking terrorists there.

7Syria: U.S. recently launched air strikes in Syria, despite the red line being drawn by the President over Bashar al-Assad’s use of chemical weapons over a year ago.

Wrong...many of sunken ships were WELL out of the war zone and in fact a few were sunk in the gulf of Mexico.

The Gulf attacks were after war was declared by Germany.  The U.S. destroyed a German weather station in Greenland sunk a German U Boat prior to pear harbor.  A German U Boat attacked a U.S. convoy that was going to Great Britain prior to Pearl Harbor.  DECEMBER 7, 1941 is the official date the everybody recognizes as the day America had to go and save the world as if we were just innocent bystanders that was attacked for no apparent reason.
